“What do we need to have a discussion about?”
“Not here.”
Her heart was beating a mile a minute. Was he wanting to talk about what she wanted to talk about? The feeling between them, that neither one of them seemed to be able to push away, that was what Sarah wanted to focus on. It was what she didn’t understand.
“Okay, um, where do you want to talk then?”
“Why don't you come by my house tonight?”
Sarah said that she had something she had to do.
“Are you avoiding me? You avoided me all weekend, you can’t avoid me, anymore. Whatever it is you need to do, you can do it later. This comes first.”
“Oh really? Is this work related, boss?”
“You know damn well it isn't.”
“Well, I know this is how you act at work, but you're not going to talk to me like that.”
Sarah started to walk away with an indignant pep to her step and he stopped her at the door.
“Meet me at my house at seven, Sarah, I'm not joking. If you don't, I'm just going to come track you down at your parents’ house. Is that really where you want to have that conversation?”
She couldn't be mad or even pretend to be. The idea of them talking about sex at her parents’ house, even if she lived there or not, was not something that she wanted to think about. Sarah thought that her mother was into her personal life a bit too much and if she knew that she was doing something with Harold or whatever it was they were doing, it would just make everything worse. She would think that she was right, and Sarah couldn’t let that fly. Her mom would just up her game in matchmaking.
“Fine, I’ll meet you there.”
Harold had the biggest grin on his face, like he’d gotten exactly what he wanted. Maybe he had. Sarah didn’t know what to think of this new side of Harold, the demanding side.
Chapter 22
Harold
Harold was a little nervous about how he had talked to Sarah and basically demanded that she come to see him. When it got closer to seven o'clock, he got even more nervous. What if she didn’t show up? Was he really prepared to go over to her house and make a scene? Harold liked Carolyn and Gerald quite a bit. He did not want to cause them any trouble.
All he could do was hope that Sarah wouldn't force him to make a decision where he had to. Harold liked to believe that he would make the right one, but considering that his inner beast was uncontrollable at the moment, he was afraid of what would happen if they were brought together soon. They both wanted it, so Harold was eager to get them going in the right direction.
Sarah showed up at seven on the dot and she was dressed to kill. It was harder than ever to keep his eyes off her, and she smelled of gardenias when she passed by him and that did more than the long legs and tight body did.
“Incredible as always.”
“Thank you. I would say that I appreciate the invite, but I don't think that's what it was. I think it was more of a demand, wasn't it?”
“And you don’t like that?”
“Of course, I don't, why would I? I don't know what kind of women you’ve dated in the past or worked with in the past, but I don't want to be bossed around, even by my boss.”
“I just thought it was best that we did it here.”
“Did what here?”
“You know what, Sarah. That's what we both want, so why are we even denying and pretending like we don't know?”
Sarah started to tremble. “You’re going to have to be more specific.”
It was some of the same words that he used on her. It was completely different now, though. He moved closer, pushing some hair out of her face.
“You know damn well what needs to happen. I am craving you so badly that it's making it hard to focus on anything else. I can't even focus on work, which is something that I've always been able to pride myself on. I've always been the best because I want to be on the top. And here I am on the top, and you are driving me absolutely mad. I can have any woman I want Sarah, but you're the only one that I think about. I've been thinking about you nonstop since we met at the conference. Do you know how long that is for me? Do you know how long that is to want somebody and not be able to have them?”
