“It has been my pleasure, Sarah.”

She smiled for a heartbeat. He wanted to kiss her. Her parents were not far away, putting up the dishes and washing them together. Harold didn’t want them to see him putting his hands on their daughter. Maybe the truth was that Harold was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to stop himself. He was sure that something would take over and he wouldn’t be able to stop himself. His inner beast wanted to come out when he was around her.

Like right then.

“Well, I should probably go.”

Sarah was surprised. She was waiting for a kiss, even though Harold was disgruntled at work half the time. There was something in the way that she craved him in that moment. He could see it written across her face.

“I hope you had a good night.”

“Almost.”

“Almost?”

“Yeah, dinner was missing something.”

Sarah crinkled up her nose, like she was really trying to figure it out. Why didn’t she know what she did to him? Harold was shaking next to her, and she wasn’t bothered at all.

“It was missing something sweet at the end.”

Harold pulled her into his arms and kissed her hard on the lips. He had wanted it to be soft, lingering, and gentle, but something took over him. His fingers bit into her soft flesh as he pulled her closer, pressing her inch by inch against him. There was such satisfaction in the way that she whimpered submission and melted. Harold’s tongue claimed her mouth, leaving no chance that she didn’t know exactly what he wanted. What they both wanted, by the way she was responding to him.

“Sarah, did you see my dry cloth?”

The voice from the other room brought him back to reality and reminded him where he was and what he was supposed to be doing and what not to be doing. He growled under his breath, and she gasped.

“What?”

“Your eyes.”

Harold sighed inwardly and waved her off. “I really have to go, Sarah. I will see you later.”

He quickly walked to his car, not wanting to look back. What about his eyes? Harold had a clue, but when he saw the faint glow in the rearview mirror, he knew exactly what she was talking about. His beast had come out, in a way it never had before. Harold needed some answers, and he had a good idea where to get them.

Chapter 17

Sarah

She leaned her back against the door and pressed her lips together several times. That was one hell of a kiss, and it was her mom’s second prompting, which made her realize that she had been standing there for a considerable amount of time.

“What are you doing, dear? Are you okay?”

Sarah wasn’t ‘okay’, she was something else, yet she didn’t have a name for it. She felt amazing, better than amazing. Sarah felt like she was on top of the world, and nothing was going to knock her down, nothing.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

Carolyn looked at her knowingly.

“Harold, he is really nice.”

Sarah agreed that he was, even if she didn’t like where her mother was going with that.

“Yeah.”

“Must be a great boss.”

Sarah didn’t like the reminder of who he really was. He was her boss and what they had just done was not something that they should do again. He was off limits and if something went wrong, Sarah would lose a job that she loved, really loved.
