“There would probably be a lot of consequences. I don't think that I will be able to stay in good standing with my family. They would probably try to get me to leave the Academy, as well. I might be shunned from the whole shifter community to be honest.”
Laurel shook her head in disgust. “Well, you can't let that happen.”
He agreed. “No, I really don't want that to happen, but what is the alternative? I'll never be able to be with you and I don't know if I could ever be okay with that.”
He was moving closer, coming too close, and she felt that same trembling that she had before. How badly she wanted him to kiss her and tell her that everything was going to be alright. That they could be together.
Nathan moved faster than she realized. And before she knew it, he held her in his arms. She could feel his breath against her face which made her shiver.
“Tell me to stop and I won't do it, I won't kiss you. All you have to do is say stop and I will.”
That preamble was right before he leaned in to kiss her. She was finding it very hard to resist him, and when their lips finally met and her body started to crumble into his, any thought of resistance quickly faded away. How could she ever say no to such an experience?
Laurel could feel the earth underneath her shaking, her whole body vibrating from the pleasure that she was feeling. It was perfect. If there was even such a thing as perfection. She knew if there was, it was from her being in his arms.
He had this look on his face when he pulled back. She had never felt so needed and desired in all of her life. Laurel was shaking in his embrace, clinging to him like she was going to lose her very life if she didn’t. How badly she wanted more, and his kiss deepened in response, like he knew what it was that she desired more than anything else.
When he started to run his hands down her side, cupping her breasts and pressing her harder against his arduous desires, she knew that it was going too far. It was going to a point where she wouldn't be able to control it much longer. Whether it was just his girlfriend or something else holding her back from what she obviously wanted, she just couldn't get over it.
“Stop, we really need to stop.”
Her breath came out in short gasps, and he had the biggest smile on his face. Her hands were on his chest, pushing him back, trying to clear her mind.
“I know you will taste good, Laurel. You just blew away any expectations that I had. This is what it's supposed to feel like.”
The way he was talking, made her start to turn red. He was saying it so matter of factly, like nobody could say otherwise.
“I think that we've had enough experimentation for the night.”
“Why did you stop me?”
“Because it was the best thing that could be done. We both know that this is probably not going to end well. We’re only making it harder when this all has to end. I know that it is making it harder for me.”
“You don’t really believe that, Laurel. I can feel that you want me, too.”
“We’re just fooling ourselves if we think it's going to end any other way but badly.”
He refused to believe such a thing. It was far easier for him to believe that something good would come of it all. He wanted to believe it so badly, that he was fully willing to take that chance.
The desire was so strong that he didn't want to see the no in her face. It wasn't the answer that he wanted, and instead, he wanted her to look at him with that same desire that she had displayed before. How he wanted to see that, feel her need, and give her what she desired. She wasn't as quick to go there as he would have thought, though. Most women would have given in no time at all.
“When I get rid of her, will that make you feel better about it?”
“You get rid of her? Who, your fiancé?”
“Yeah, Nancy.”
“Do you really think that is going to change anything? I don’t think a woman would want you to drop one woman just so you could pick up another one. It just doesn’t seem like something that would be done. I don't want you to end your relationship that was fated to you by the gods. You have to know that, right? How could any woman really care about someone and choose to ruin your fate? It is literally what is supposed to happen.”
“Are you messing with me right now? You look so serious, so I can’t tell.”
“No, why?”
“Because you have to know that I don't believe anything that you're saying right now. I don’t even think you believe it. You know Nancy. You’ve met her. I do not want to be with Nancy. Whatever happens between me and you, I can't see that changing any. We are not alike in any way, and I'm actually quite grateful for that.”
“So, what are you trying to say?”
“I'm trying to say that it's not fate. If it is, it’s wrong. I feel something great between us. I feel nothing for Nancy. That’s the truth.”
