There went that whole heart overflowing deal again.
Chapter Thirteen
Beck
“Hurry, Daddy.” I’d already got my sand toys Daddy packed and dressed myself and I was ready to go play on the beach. Daddy was so slow. And naked. And…and…
Focus, Beck. You can play with your Daddy’s toys later.
Yes, right. Okay. Beach now, hidey hole later and with no sand in it. He-he.
“What are you giggling for, Bunny?”
“Nothingggg,” he knew I was fibbing. And flirting, batting my eyelashes as fast as I was.
“Liar, liar, pants on fire. I see the way you’re looking at your Daddy. Naughty boy.” Daddy winked and that just made my winky jump. “Hmm,” he wrapped his arms around me and kissed me in that sexy way. “Big play now or later?”
“Umm,” my brain froze. “Wait, later. Yes, hidey hole later.”
Daddy laughed. He did that a lot with me. “Sounds like a plan. Maybe a grown-up dinner date first?”
“Yes, please.” I was feeling pretty grown up right now, rubbing against Daddy. Wait, was I humping his leg?Bad winky!Kinda. Maybe. Ugh, my brain was grown-up scrambled.
“Sunscreen, check. Sunglasses,” Daddy glanced up at me. “Where are your sunglasses, Bunny?”
Shoot. I snagged them off the table and put them on.
“Good boy. Two water bottles and snacks, my iPad, and towels.” Daddy loaded it all up in my backpack to take down to the beach with us. “We’ll grab lunch on the riverwalk while we shop. Alright, time to head out.”
I made marching sounds and walked ahead of Daddy down the long hallway to the elevator and pushed the button for him. “It’s beeping Daddy, hurry.”
“Sweetheart, the beach and ocean will still be there no matter what time we arrive.”
Duh, but I didn’t say that out loud.
Daddy found us an umbrella with two chairs under it. I dropped my toys and tried to take off but he stopped me. Phooey.
“Sunscreen first, Bunny. You know that.”
Drat.
I plopped down and Daddy slathered it on. “Now I smell like coconut.”
“Yes, you do and you’re protected from the evil sun’s rays too. I know you’re dying to put your feet in so go ahead. I’ll be right here waiting.”
I ran across the beach and right into the surf, forgetting what Daddy had said about the water being cold. When I yelled, all the people turned and stared, but Daddy laughed.
“I warned you,” I barely heard his words over the sound of the waves. Now that I was in, it wasn’t as cold. Kinda. Who was Ikidding, even my winky went into hiding. Enough of that, time to build a sandcastle.
I grabbed my bucket and filled it with water then went and sat in the soft sand next to Daddy. “Build, build, build. Mr. Lobster, be nice and no fighting.” Had to warn him, last time he wasn’t a good boy.
Daddy laid on the lounge chair beside me, reading on his iPad while I played. It was so nice, and even though it was warm, it was nowhere near as hot as Vegas was. Plus, the cool breeze off the ocean helped keep me cool.
“Drink your water, baby.” Sometimes I swear he reads my mind.
“’Kay, Daddy.” I drank more than I thought I would, guess I was thirsty. But it was time to play again. At least until my tummy grumbled.
“Time to pack up and get lunch. We’ll walk around and shop after that if you want to come back for a bit later we can.”
