“You’re dangerous,” he tells me, unhappy lines pulling his mouth down. “But you’re right. I hate that you have to do this, but I’ll be right there next to you.”

He spins and walks out as I sway slightly, blinking.

“Holy shit,” Ace mutters. “Call the body snatchers, they’ve taken Devlin and replaced him with someone agreeable.”

Standing up, he moves to leave, Gabe doing the same. They catch each other’s eye at the same time and I watch, fascinated by the flush rising on their cheeks. Ace pulls away and ducks in to kiss my forehead. “Proud of you, little omega,” he whispers. I grin back at him as Gabe squeezes my hand. “I’ll arrange an outfit for you,” he tells me.

I groan slightly at the thought but nod. He’s right. I’ll need an OC-approved dress. As the door closes behind them, Rogue gets to his feet. “Are you sure about this, love?” he asks. His emerald eyes watch my face intently. “Nobody would blame you for not wanting to go. We can find another way.”

“I know, but I need to.” I do. I’ve been cowering behind the pack, waiting for a dreaded call from the compound or a knock on the door. This way, I feel a little more in control.

“I guess we’ll see how well their training held up,” I quip flippantly. A flash of fury crosses Rogue’s face and I instinctively jump back, my eyes wide.

“Don’t, love.” His voice is so low I can barely hear it. “Don’t make jokes about you in there.”

I lean in and move his ruffled hair out of his eyes. They flash down at me, filled with worry.

“I’m sorry. We’ll be fine, Rogue,” I whisper.

I believe it. I believe in them.

ChapterTwenty-Nine

Harper

Ihover in the doorway of the kitchen, skulking silently as I watch Gabe carefully measuring spices into a large pan. He reaches up to grab something from the cupboard and the line of his white shirt rises up, exposing tanned muscle.

I bite my lip as I stare at the dusting of gold hair reaching down past his waistband. Gabe isedible. He pushes his pale hair away from his face impatiently and curses as he stares at the mix.

I decide to stop lingering and make a point of dropping my feet heavily as I walk in. Gabe swings around and his look of frustration slips away, so quickly I nearly missed it.

“Hey, you,” he says, his mouth curving up at the corners. “You hungry?”

I shake my head. Gabe is afeeder. He shovels food into people until they can’t breathe. And since I arrived, he’s made it his personal mission to get me to a healthy weight. Already I can feel it.

My shape is filling out, curves I’ve never felt thanks to the compound starting to appear. The pack has been noticing the changes too, and Gabe’s ears flush a bright red as he quickly moves his gaze away from my body, even though I’m covered with another shirt.

This one belongs to Rogue. I’ve been keeping hold of the clothing they’re lending me. I can’t resist them. Their scents are intoxicating, but I have some new clothes arriving soon, so I won’t have access to them forever. The thought of not being able to bury myself in the scent of their clothes makes a whine slip out before I can stop it, and Gabe stiffens.

He’s halfway across the kitchen in the blink of an eye. “What’s the matter?” he asks me urgently. His hand comes up and runs down my arm gently, and I lean into the gesture. It’s not enough, so I step closer, hoping he takes the hint. When I glance up at him, our mouths are so close together I can scent the coffee he’s been drinking.

His hazel eyes darken as we watch each other. I hold my breath, not sure what I’m waiting for. My heart pounds in my chest, so loud Gabe must be able to hear it.

Carefully, so carefully, he moves forward and presses his mouth gently against my lips. His scent invades my senses, baked bread and cinnamon and orange filling the kitchen with reminders of us. He raises his hands to cradle my face tenderly between his hands as his lips move over mine. A punch ofneedhits me right in the solar plexus, a twinge telling me that my pussy is well and truly on board if we want to take this further.

I gasp and Gabe seizes the opportunity. He sweeps in, claiming my mouth with his tongue as he explores me, his hands sliding around to the back of my head as a possessive grumble slides out of his mouth, sending shivers up my spine.

Gabe makes me feelprecious.

He pulls back slowly, his hand cupping my cheek as he leans in and rubs his nose against mine. It’s such an affectionate move that I can’t help but smile, a curl of satisfaction taking place in my belly. That was exactly what I’d needed.

“Thank you,” I breathe, and he smiles as he steps back. “Don’t thank me,” he warns. “I’m really fighting not to drag you upstairs and lock us away for the rest of the day. And possibly tomorrow too.”

I flush, my gaze dropping to the tent he’s pitching in his trousers. Saliva fills my mouth as I imagine dropping to my knees for him, popping open his buttons and taking him into my hand like I did with Rogue. Hard, heavy, warm.

“Oh,” I mumble dazedly in response. He smirks at me, and my mind clears enough to frown at him teasingly.

“Not fair,” I complain, crossing my arms. “You scrambled my brain with your kisses.”
