Chapter Twenty-One

“You may kiss the bride.” The Reverend gave the command and Law grabbed for my waist and pulled me close, dipping me down and planting a long kiss on my lips. Cheers came from behind us as most of the town had shown up and I was grateful that Law had planned an outside wedding among the sunflowers.

I was pulled back upright and Law grabbed for my hand and ran. I followed him as we ran down the aisle with our friends and family cheering us on. He didn’t stop until we were inside one of the stables off to the side. When we entered I knew it wasn’t the one we were having our reception in because it was still full of hay.

Law pushed me against one of the stacks and his lips crushed to mine.

“God, I’ve missed you,” he said in between kisses as his hands roamed over my body. The feel of his hands sent shivers through me, but that wasn’t all. With each passing second it dawned on me more that we were now husband and wife. I deepened the kiss Law had started, suddenly starved for something more.

“I want you.” My words came out as a plea.

Law pulled away from me, pressing his forehead against mine. Our heavy breaths mingled.

“We have to go to the reception. If only for a moment.”

I bit my lip at Law’s words. If we were late, no one would know.

“Five minutes,” I countered. I looked up into his eyes and almost melted into his arms at the look of adoration that was dotted on me.

“Three.” Law pulled me back into his arms and shoved me against one of the hay bales. My back slammed against it and my legs instantly wrapped around his. Law’s hands roamed up my thighs and bunched the wedding dress I had on to my waist. When he looked down, a hiss escaped him. I hadn’t bothered to put on any panties, in anticipation of this exact moment. This wasn’t a day for inhibitions and I wanted all of Law.

He brought a thumb to my clit and rubbed. That was my undoing. I hooked an arm around his neck and pulled his face to mine, slamming our lips back together as I ground on his hand. He didn’t give me what I wanted, though. He used only his fingers to tease me and then let one slip inside of me, but never rubbed his cock against me.

“Please.” I broke away for only a second to speak the word.

“You’ll.” He kissed my lips with a loud smack. “Have.” Another smack. “To.” Then another. “Wait.”

Law lowered me back to the ground and fixed my dress, then took my hand and led me out of the barn. We stepped back outside into the sunshine, seeing where the ceremony was being cleaned up, which meant that everyone had already made their way over to the reception.

“We can just run away, Law.” I tried to tug on his hand, wanting to get out of here, so that it was just the two of us.

He stopped right outside of the barn doors and turned toward me.

“Let me have the dance at least.” His eyes pleaded with me, so I gave in with slumped shoulders. Law took his silent victory and opened the barn doors for us both. When the door fully opened, everyone was standing and clapping for us. Cheers filled the barn, hollers from all across the floor. Law led me to the dance floor, not waiting for us to even get to sit down before he was getting the dance he wanted.

He lifted me and slipped off the wedges I’d been wearing and carried me to the middle of the dance floor. He nodded to the DJ, who was off to the side, and a soft country song came over the speaker. Everyone had died down with the excitement and what once was a barn filled with voices was now highlighted with flashes from cameras. Law lowered me onto his shoes as he wrapped an arm around me and we swayed in the all too familiar circle we had created.

I closed my eyes as we spun and rested my head against Law’s chest. I looked up at him and gave him the smile he had always wanted with our dance and he leaned down to give me the kiss he had always promised.

This was the first time anyone had seen our dance, but it didn’t feel like an intrusion. It felt like these people around us were finally getting to see the real us and it took a wedding to get there.

“I don’t think I told you how gorgeous you look today.” Law leaned down to whisper in my ear. I leaned into him again, burying my face back into his chest.

“I don’t think I told you how happy I am today.” The words were muffled into his chest, but I knew he heard me when his arms wrapped around me tighter. When the song finally ended, Law picked me back up and walked me over to where our seats were at the front of the bar and then went back to get my shoes. When he retrieved them and lifted them into the air, the clapping from everyone turned into cheers.

I laughed as the DJ went into the next song and a few people joined the dance floor for their own moves. A few friends I had made around town came up to our table to congratulate us, but I didn’t stand until Tony stopped by. When I stood, he grabbed me in for a bear hug and I half expected Law to jump across the table.

“You’re lucky you’re my best friend,” Law teased him, but Tony paid no mind.

“You look stunning, Anya.” Tony held me at arm’s length and then pulled me in. “I’ve never seen him look this happy.”

Tony gave me one last squeeze and then left the table. I stayed standing and looked back at Law, whose eyes were roaming across the barn. I could see his teeth from how big his smile was and he looked so at ease as he sat there in front of everyone. This man was mine and I didn’t know how I had gotten so lucky.

“May I?” My father’s voice came from behind me and I looked from him and then back at Law. I had no idea why I was asking Law if it was okay to dance with my father, but in my heart I knew why. I was Law’s now, and even though my father would always be my father, he wasn’t the one protecting me any longer. It was Law. It would always be Law.

“Yeah.” My voice was light and my father led me onto the floor. We had never set up a father daughter dance, since that just wasn’t who we were, but with the way he had been quiet for the last month, I knew this meant everything to him.

“You’re not my little girl anymore.” Those were the first words he spoke to me and my heart about died. My mother was right. I had no idea how I was about to get through this dance without breaking down.
