“Where are you from?”

“Alabama.” He sat up a little with pride filling his chest. A giggle rose out of me, and in that instant, I wanted to know everything about Law. “Talladega, to be exact.”

“You say it with such pride.”

“You caught yourself a proud Southern man, sugar.”

“What’s with the sugar?” I questioned, slowly tracing a finger over Law’s hand that held on to mine.

“It was the first thing I thought of when I saw how much sugar you put in your tea.” The laugh that came from him didn’t just fill the room, it filled my soul.

“Don’t be mean.” I took my hand out of his and pushed his shoulder. Law’s hand caught my wrist and brought it to my lips. He placed a kiss right on top of my carpe diem tattoo.

“I thought ballerinas couldn’t have tattoos?”

“I cover it with makeup when I have a show.”

“What have you been in?”

“Mostly off the scene productions. The one I’m in currently has been my longest and ends in just a few weeks.”

Law released my hand back to me and moved our chairs to a righted position.

“Dance with me.” Law removed himself from his seat and stood there with a hand held out to me. I sat there contemplating if what he said was a question or a statement. Either way, when I laid my hand in his and an electric current rushed from his fingertips through my entire body, I knew it didn’t matter. I was going to dance with this man either way.

Law pulled me toward him and lifted me slightly, placing both my feet on his.

“This can’t be comfortable.” I laughed at him as I looked down to see my wedges on top of his dress shoes. “Hold on.”

I pushed out of Law’s arms, but I used his shoulder for balance as I took off my heels, going from almost as tall as him to my original height. He didn’t have to pick me back up this time to get me back to where we were. I took a step forward and placed both my feet on top of his.

Law’s arms came around my waist naturally, holding me close to him, and his other hand reached for mine and held it in the air. He moved us around in circles and in that moment, we didn’t need music. We danced to the beat of our hearts as the rhythm combined our souls into one.

I was staring down at where my feet were planted on his and the looked up at where Law was staring down at me. The smile on his face pulled a sense of longing out of me. I had only ever longed to dance, but now I was longing for a love I had no idea if he wanted to even give back to me.

“What’s this called?” Law asked as he looked down at me with wonder filled eyes.

“What do you mean?” I pulled my eyebrows together in confusion.

“This dance, what’s it called?”

“We’re just slow dancing.” I let out a small laugh, not sure if that was the answer he was looking for.

“Oh.” The way Law’s face fell broke my heart. I moved my head under him to be able to look into his eyes.

“In the ballet, a two-person dance, between a man and a woman, is called a Pas De Deux.”

A smile pulled onto Law’s face, and I felt a little better.

“But typically, it’s a little fancier.”

“Oh. I’ll show you fancy.” Law tipped me back, and we both started to laugh. He righted me, and the only thing that stopped another laugh from escaping me was Law’s lips melding into mine.

The kiss was quick, and the blush running across Law’s face had me wondering if I had done something wrong.

“I shouldn’t have done that.” Law laughed at himself and shook his head. “I’m supposed to be a gentleman tonight and ravage you tomorrow.”

I let out a full belly laugh and leaned up to kiss Law again, keeping this one just as chaste.
