Chapter Two

I stood in front of the dance studio in my long lavender flowy dress and a matching cardigan. My cream wedges complimented my dirty blond hair perfectly. It was the beginning of spring here in New York, and I always made sure to take full advantage of the warmer weather. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the cold, but I felt more comfortable in clothes that didn’t fully hug my body. My leo was the only exception. I looked down at the dainty watch on my wrist. I was always early to everything, so when Law messaged me to meet him at the studio at seven, of course I had to be here at six-thirty. I wanted to make sure I was mentally prepared, and I was glad because the man who was now walking toward me, wearing dress slacks and a black dress shirt with the first button undone, screamedout of my league.

He looked like a model. He was built, but not too bulky, definitely too tan to be from anywhere close to here. He wore a cap backward, and the way the material was fringed at the end indicated it was well loved. His hair peeked out of the bottom of the cap and was the only thing that threw off the outfit, like he wasn’t used to dressing up.

“You look gorgeous, sugar.” Law made a grab for me, wrapping one arm around me, and I let him. I was frozen in fear because I’d never had anyone give me attention like this before. Especially not a handsome man using a pet name with me. He leaned down and planted his lips on my cheek, and I knew the blush that crept across my face gave me away. This man was sweeping me off my feet and I was going to let him.

“You look quite handsome yourself,” I quipped and took a step back, but he wouldn’t let me go. With my wedges on I was almost as tall as him, but thankfully there was still some distance between his lips and mine because if a kiss with him was as good as what he gave to my cheek, I wanted one now.

He kept his arm around my waist and started walking us down the street toward Central Park. I realized once we hit the corner I had no idea where we were going.

“Hayden Planetarium,” Law answered my question before I could even ask it. He didn’t even look down at me when he said it. He checked for cars on the street and then maneuvered us across. This went on the whole way to the museum. Law directed me to where I needed to walk, making sure I was nowhere near harm.

I was a little scared to think of any more questions, in case he might answer me again. Although, I did want him to answer me again. I wanted to hear his rough Southern accent fill the nonexistent space between us.

I could have sworn to Leah yesterday that I would be a bucket of nerves today, but it would have been a lie. I wasn’t nervous at all. In fact, the longer I was next to Law, the calmer I became.

Shit. It’s only day two of knowing this man, and he’s already sinking into my life.

Law was basically attached to my hip as we walked on. It didn’t feel like we’d just met yesterday morning, but that we had known each other our whole lives. Like our souls had been lost and were trying to find their way back to one another.

“We’re here.” It hadn’t occurred to me we’d already made our way down to the museum until Law stopped us and I looked up to see a dark building and a man waiting outside the double doors. I had walked past this building enough times to know this wasn’t the front entrance.

“Law.” I pulled on his arm. “Is it closed?”

“Mr. Kane, we have everything ready for you.” The older gentleman who had been waiting by the back exit had made his way over to us. His statement made the hairs rise on the back of my neck. I had so many questions I knew I wanted Law to answer tonight, but this brought on even more.

Whois this man who has ahold of me?

Once we were inside the building, I slowed our pace behind the guide who was walking us through the dimly lit corridors of the planetarium.

“Who are you?” My main question couldn’t wait any longer. I felt like the farther we got into this building I wouldn’t have the chance to ask everything I needed to and right now, I needed to know who Law was, because a normal guy who goes into a coffee shop isn’t able to rent out aclosedplanetarium. I snuck a peek over at Law to see if he gave any indication on his face about my question.

“I’ll answer any of your questions once we’re inside.” He guided me faster into the awaiting room where the older man was standing, holding the door open for us. We entered, and I was in utter awe. Blue lights filled every inch of the room and screens adorned the walls and ceiling.

“The room is yours for the next two hours, sir.” The man gave Law a nod and handed him a remote before leaving the room.

“Pick a seat.” Law turned his attention back to me.

I looked around the room and knew exactly where I wanted to sit. I made my way to the middle of the room and didn’t wait to see if Law followed. I sat in what I considered the most middle chair in the whole room and pressed the recline button, laying me flat on my back to stare at the blank screens above me. The seat next to me moved, and I could see Law smiling to himself out of the corner of my eye as he made himself comfortable and hit a few buttons on the remote he was given.

Within seconds the room turned dark and the screens began to change, showing a wide variety of stars from all over the galaxy. It was breathtaking, and for a moment I was lost, and the realization didn’t hit me soon enough that the room was completely quiet and Law was staring at me intently. I turned my head to see the lights from the screen reflected in his eyes and watched as they moved over my face, stopping at my lips. I licked them and watched as his mouth parted slightly.

His eyes continued their journey and I had to turn away to look back up at the screens.

“I could watch you all day.” Law’s voice was rough, and he adjusted himself in his seat to turn toward me. “I had the sound turned off, so we’d be able to talk.”

“Is this the part where you’ll answer my questions?” I still hadn’t turned back to Law. I was trying to play like I had an advantage here, when I knew I didn’t.

“Whatever you want to know.” Law took my right hand in both of his hands. “But all I ask is that you look at me when we talk.”

I turned my head toward him slowly, still feigning that I was the one making the decisions here and not him. The light from the screen above us cast a shadow into his eyes. The first time I saw them there was a light in them. Now I only saw the dark, but it was just as mesmerizing. I felt like I was staring at the planet Neptune with how they put me into a trance. Swirls of grey mixed with the darkest of blues.

“Who are you?” I repeated my question from before.

“Lawson Kane.” He said his name with such emphasis, like I was supposed to know who he was. “You have no idea who I am, do you?”

“What gave it away?” I raised an eyebrow at him and a smirk covered my lips.
