I stood beside him, trying not to crawl deep down into my own skin. I knew I didn’t fit in here and I felt my anxiety rising up. What if he didn’t want me?Stop it.Stop thinking like that.

“Who’s this?”

I was pulled from my thoughts by a man who was half turned toward the large screen in front of us and half turn toward me, like I was an afterthought. Most of the men hadn’t paid me any mind yet.

“Anya.” That was all Tony had to say for every single guy in this place to whip their heads in my direction. Well, now I was the center of attention. I watched the screen behind them to see Law slowing down and pulling off the track.

“Shit,” one of the guys in the corner spoke up. “I never imaged.”

“I don’t think Lawson will have either,” Tony spoke up. The rumble of an engine came closer and Tony guided me off to the side. “Wait here. I’m thinking we should surprise him.”

Tony winked at me and then left me behind a side wall where I could still see everything that was happening, but Law wouldn’t be able to see me. I still had no words for what was happening. This was it. I was going to see everything about Law’s life with my own eyes, rather than watching a television.

His car pulled into the garage and he made his was out of it, throwing his helmet on the ground.

“I can still feel the fucking pull!” he yelled as he marched over to the group waiting next to his car.

“We already looked at it, Lawson.” Tony stepped up to him. “Are you sure it’s not something else?”

“Positive,” he snapped and then walked over to a side bench to pick up his phone. I hadn’t texted him this morning on purpose. I wanted this whole day to be a surprise. “Fuck.”

I heard him mumble and then slam the phone back down on the work table.

“I’ll just run it again.” Law was exasperated.

I looked him up and down and the scruff that had been there a few weekends ago was getting more full and turning into a beard. His eyes looked drained and the tug that pulled at my heart had me knowing that my being here was the right thing.

“Maybe you should relax for a moment,” Tony suggested.

“No. I need to be perfect this weekend. I want her to see me win every damn race.”

I covered my mouth as Law’s words. I was the ‘her.’

This was it. This was when I needed to show myself.

I stepped out from behind the wall, Law’s back turned partially toward me. It was going to make this all so much sweeter.

“I think you’re pretty perfect already,” I said softly.

Law turned around, his face showing shock and adoration at the same time. I could tell he was fighting showing more of a reaction in front of the guys, but he broke that as soon as I licked my lips. It only took him four steps to get to me, to lift me up into his arms and place a solid kiss onto my lips. I laughed against him as he spun us around.

“What are you doing here?” Law pulled his head back to look at me and I placed both of my hands on either side of his face. This was it. This was the leap.

“I love you, Lawson Kane.” I said what I had to and waited for a response from him and he stopped our movements immediately but still had me wrapped at the waist with feet dangling in the air. His eyes searched mine and even though there was a group of men off to the side, waiting to see what would unfold in front of them, we were the only two in this moment.

Just us.

“I love you too, sugar.” His answer whispered across my lips and I moved in to join us back together. It was a frenzied kiss, filled with lost time and the whole world at our hands as we moved forward with our lives. He looked around me, searching for something. “Where are your bags?”

“In my office,” Tony spoke up.

“How long are you staying?”

“Forever?” I asked him. I closed my eyes and bent my head down. I didn’t want to look at Law right now, in fear that he might say the words I never wanted to hear. His hand came to my chin and lifted my head back up to his. He set my feet on the ground and moved his other hand to my cheek.

“Look at me.”

I opened my eyes to see Law staring right back at me.
