“You’re crazy.” I laughed and turned around to walk away.
“You can’t just leave!” Law made his way behind me and this time I didn’t run away, but Law didn’t chase me. I looked back down at my phone. Fifteen more minutes. I stopped and stared down at the daunting numbers that mocked me.
Law came up behind me and then took me into his arms. He let out an exhausted breath as his head lay on my shoulder and he looked down at the phone I was holding.
“When will I see you again?” I asked wearily, not knowing if I wanted to know the answer.
“Soon.” Law turned me around in his arms and rested his forehead against mine.
“What does that mean?” I whispered. The phone stayed in my hands, wedged between us. It was like if we couldn’t see it, then it couldn’t be real.
“It means I’ll see you soon. I’ll make sure we see each other.”
I pulled away and looked up into Law’s eyes.
“What are we?” I asked boldly. I needed to know the answer. If I was going to live in a world where I waited for Lawson Kane every day to come home to me, I wanted to know what we were.
“You’re my everything,” he spoke surely. He straightened himself up and popped out his chest, just like he had before. Like what he was about to say was going to save the day. “You’re my girlfriend.”
He said it matter-of-factly. Like I had no other option in the decision. I didn’t care. I knew I was his and I knew he was mine, but I needed to know if it was temporary or if we were in it for the long haul. And from his answer I knew he felt the same way I did. We wanted this to last and we were going to do everything in our power to make it happen.
“Does that make you my boyfriend?”
“Yes.” Law’s answer came out as a rasp. He brought me flush against his body and molded his lips to mine. I took the moment to let everything wash away from my thoughts. I didn’t need to think about Law leaving or when I might see him again. Not when I had the man already wrapped in my arms telling me we were a couple. That if someone asked me, I was off the market.
I broke away from the kiss and looked into Law’s bright blue eyes.
“Soon?” I asked.
“Soon,” Law promised.
