Annie could help.Leigh feared everyone, including him.But she trusted her sister and listened to her.
He held Annie's hand, leading her outside. Her relief at being included was immediate, though her eyes stayed fierce. She climbed onto the back of the bike, arms wrapped tight around his waist.
He set her feet on the pegs and brought her hands around his waist, clasping them. With her behind him, he couldn't see her.If she yelled, he wouldn't hear her.It was risky taking her with him.He didn't have time to teach her how to ride or how to get his attention while riding.
Hunter motioned Baddy over to him."Ride with us," said Hunter."Bring back Leigh."
Baddy nodded and swung onto his own bike. They'd reach their destination quicker on the Harleys. But with Annie by his side, he needed someone who could bring Leigh back.Annie's sister had stayed with Baddy before and trusted him.
Hunter's mind raced as the engines roared to life.He knew Jason's schedule. He'd noted all the coming and going, every habit, and his personality.Right now, Jason would be home.
Leigh was walking straight into hell for some God damn reason he couldn't understand.
Hunter exchanged a look with Baddy, his hand patting the vest over his chest, fingers brushing the pistol tucked inside.
Baddy caught the gesture and nodded once, his own hand resting near his weapon.Armed and ready.
But Hunter knew the truth. There was a chance he wouldn't be coming back if they made it to Leigh.
It was the middle of the day.The neighbors on the street were living their lives. There would be eyes everywhere. If he couldn't catch up to Leigh before she reached Jason, there was a high chance that he was going to get arrested.
Hunter tightened his grip on the handlebars. The weight of Annie pressed against his back.
They were riding into danger.
And Hunter had to make sure they all came back out.
Chapter 30
Baddy and Hunter slowedthe motorcycles as they neared Jason's street, engines rumbling lower.Hunter pulled them into the shadows, near a hedge, far enough back to stay unseen.Annie's heart hammered as her eyes locked on Leigh, running down the side yard, disappearing into the back of the house.
They arrived too late.
Annie slid off the seat and lurched forward, ready to run after her.But Hunter's hand shot out, pulling her back.He tapped her mouth, then his own, a silent command. His eyes flicked to Baddy, who nodded as Hunter patted the air.
Baddy muttered under his breath, "He wants us to stay quiet."
