Still, the thought of eating her up made his mouth water.Candy scented and apple red…

Something hit the window behind him, driving his lust to the back of his mind. He dove in front of Vee to shield her, pulling out his gun and twisting to shoot. But it was only a man slamming a sign against the glass. The outside security pulled him back, and the man vanished into the crowd.

A hand grabbed his forearm. “Cypher, you okay?”

He glanced down at Vee, worry marring her features.

He lowered his gun but kept his safety off. “I want to fucking kill them all.” He wanted to fuck even more, but he kept that to himself. “I’m fine. Let’s get this over with.”

She dropped her hand, but the feel of her warmth remained.

He strode to the elevator when it zipped open.

A prissy-looking blonde woman peered up at him from a screen she held in her hand. Her eyes darted to Vee, who moved beside him.

“Mia,” Vee said.

“Ms. Miles,” the blonde responded. “I’m here to collect you.”

Cypher grumbled and stepped into the elevator, forcing Mia to move to the side. “Finally,” he muttered.

He’d heard of this Mia, but only in passing from some of the other shifter Cyborgs who worked as Retrievers for the EPED. Mia was their contact and managed their file acquisitions. She’d been with them for nearly ten years…and wanted off Earth like most women.

Vee trailed in after him. “I’m sorry I left so suddenly a couple days ago from the interview,” she said to Mia as the door closed.

Mia shrugged. “I understand.”

“It’s been a long few days.”

Cypher scowled.She has no idea.

“I heard your apartment was ransacked.” The elevators opened to a different floor. Mia stepped out first and led them to a conference room across the hall. She stood just outside the threshold as Cypher and Vee entered. “If you need anything, let me know. Nightheart will be here shortly.”

The door closed behind them.

Vee sat at the central round table and clasped her hands together. With a low rumble emanating from his throat, he pivoted and made two passes around the room searching for hidden weapons or cameras. Finding none, his attention returned to Vee.

She was staring down at her hands.

“What’s wrong?” He went to her side and took the seat next to her.

She stiffened enough for him to notice. She’d been quiet since leaving his ship. No, for the last few days. He hated it. It was like waiting for her to answer his comms when he traveled from Ghost.

He hadn’t realized how impatient he was now that he had to wait for things.

“I don’t know why I’m here,” she said.

“To renegotiate your contract.”

“You mean to terminate it so you can be free. To end this.”

His lips twisted. “Yes.”

“I’m…conflicted, Cypher. I—”

The door opened, cutting Vee off. Nightheart stepped through.

Cypher surged to his feet, knocking over his chair. He stormed to the bastard and grabbed him by the neck, pinning Nightheart against the wall. The other Cyborg weighed half a ton in metal, but one hand was all Cypher needed.
