Snod obediently passed the snack over, unable to resist an affectionate smile. Despite the many things

that went wrong, he had to count tonight as a success.

They had the desk, they hadn’t been arrested, and soon enough they would be back with their prize to

give to Frankie.

The rest of the drive was light and happy, Snod surprised by how much he actually enjoyed chatting

with Rees. Despite the rough edges, he was kind, and it was obvious how much he cared about

Frankie.

When they were only a few blocks away, Snod used Rees’ phone to call Frankie and request a bottle

of rum from the liquor store. Frankie was a little suspicious, but Snod explained it was a brand Rees

had recommended to him that they didn’t carry at the bar. Despite his obvious reservations, Frankie

agreed.

Once they saw Frankie’s car pull away, Snod and Rees jumped into action. Snod carried the desk and

chair in the same fashion as he had before at the museum, Rees helping him through the doorways and

into the elevator.

“You got a key?” Rees asked when they got to Frankie’s apartment door.

“Don’t need one,” Snod said, easily picking the lock.

“Dirty ol’ crook,” Rees laughed as he followed Snod inside.

They arranged the desk by Frankie’s massive bookshelves, putting the chair off to the side as if it was

back on display. Knowing Frankie would be home at any moment, Snod was beyond excited and he

couldn’t wait to see his reaction.

“You lovebirds have a good night,” Rees said, starting to take his leave. “Seriously, you ever wanna

go out on another caper, you let me know. I’ll make sure I wear black.”

“You’re not staying?” Snod was surprised that Rees didn’t want to share in the glory of their

successful mission.

“This should be just between you two. It’s special. Besides, I don’t wanna be around when he

decides how he’s gonna thank you, you know what I’m saying?” Rees waggled his brows

suggestively. “Might get sticky up in here.”

“You disapprove of homosexuality?” Snod questioned, not understanding Rees’ intent and frowning

deeply.

“No, dumbass,” Rees scolded lightly. “A gift like this is a real panty dropper, all right? I’m leaving
