Yikes.
He was a bit scary. Very . . . intense.
“Um, yes,” she replied quietly. “I know it’s not very good?—”
“I think it is very cute,” he interrupted her. “You shouldn’t put yourself down like that.”
“No, you shouldn’t,” Gray said.
She glanced up to find him frowning down at her.
Oops.
Hopefully, she didn’t get into trouble for that.
“Also, I was asking because I would like you to make me one that I will purchase from you,” Reuben stated.
He would?
He wanted to buy a Courageous Camel?
“You would? Really?” Maeve asked.
“Yes, I would.”
“He means it,” Faith told her. “He doesn’t know how to joke. It’s something we’re getting looked at.”
“Is that so, Little Blossom?” Reuben practically purred.
Yikes.
Maeve would not want to get on his bad side. But Faith was made of tougher stuff than her, because she just smiled up at Reuben.
“Brat,” Reuben murmured. “We’ll talk about that sassiness later.”
Faith still didn’t look worried. “This would be great for Juliet.”
“Just what I was thinking,” Reuben replied with a gentle look at Faith. Then he turned to Maeve. “I’d like to purchase one for my sister, Juliet.”
“Of course!” Maeve said. “I have other animals too. Ferocious Foggy, Giggling Giraffe, Worrywart Worm, Brave Bat, Happy Hippo, and Adventurous Apple. I just couldn’t figure out what sort of animal to do for A. Anteater and armadillo just didn’t feel right or that easy to make.”
“What about an Alpaca?” Faith suggested.
“Alpaca . . . yeah, I like the idea of that! Thanks, Faith.”
“You’re welcome.”
“I’ll try and get it to you as soon as possible,” she said. “Cat can call you to see where to send it. But you don’t have to buy it. I don’t sell them.”
“You should,” Reuben told her. “And I will be purchasing it.”
Okay, then.
She was not going to argue with this man.
Reuben guided Faith up the stairs. “Excuse us, we have to go before Faith gets too cold. The helicopter is waiting for you.”
“Can you believe that?” Maeve said to Gray as they headed toward the helicopter. “Reuben wants to buy one of my emotion toys.”
