Not since that night or when we saw each other again at thewedding.
After Eric carried Jesse into the bedroom, Liam sat down on the adjacent sectional seat, producing a long, deepsigh.
Since I first laid eyes on him, I was having a difficult time not looking at a man that beautiful. There was no denying my attraction towardhim.
When I first saw him, the giant that he was…approaching…all muscle and with that tense, chiseled jawline, I couldn’t deny what he roused within me, and my only fear was that if I wasn’t careful, it’d be evident in that tight speedo Iwore.
Something in his expression as he turned that smile on me, gripping my hand so firmly, sent ripples of sensation soaring through me. I was instantly attracted to him…and had to twist my body at just the right angle to keep anyone from noticing myinterest.
“So…your dad doesn’t know?” heasked.
“What?”
He kept his voice low as he spoke. “I saw the way that guy was touching you at the bar when I walked by. You weren’t exactlyresisting.”
I wouldn’t resist you, that’s for sure,I thought, remainingsilent.
I was surprised I hadn’t noticed him around me when I’d been flirting with that guy. Although, the kid was fairly distracting with how interested he was in messing around, and I was tipsy enough to be somewhat oblivious to mysurroundings.
“So he doesn’t know,” Liam pressed. It sounded more like a statement than aquestion.
I shook myhead.
Was he going to tellEric?
And there I’d thought my biggest worry was that Jesse might unintentionally rat meout.
“You know he’d be fine with it, right?” Liamadded.
I didn’t respond. He couldn’t have understood my issue, let alone the complex history Eric and I shared. Not his job to understand any of it,though.
“You’re not gonna tell him, are you?” Iasked.
“No, no. Trust me, I understand. Sometimes, we have things we need to keep in confidence. Lord knows your father’s got his own secrets, and I’ve got mine.” His expression shifted to something sad, sorrowful…
What did he mean? What kind of secrets did a man like Liam have? Whatever they were, he was clearly good at hidingthem.
There he was, this titan of a man, the rest of the world inferior to him, judging by his stature alone, but in a moment, I saw somethingmore.
Hurt.
Vulnerability.
Pain.
I peered right into hissoul.
Just as soon, his expression stiffened once again…more like the way I’d seen him since I’d met him. He gazed at me suspiciously, as though he knew I’d seen too much, and he started to saysomething.
The creak of a door silenced him, and he turned to Eric, who stepped out of the masterbedroom.
As they discussed Jesse’s condition, I tried to act cool, but I couldn’t stop looking at Liam, trying to see what he’d shown me before—some tell, something behind the act he puton.
Damn, he’d piqued mycuriosity.
Liam left shortly after, but I wanted to talk to him some more, and fortunately, Eric soon returned to Jesse, and I was able to sneak outside, hoping to run into him. Hoping he’d still be outthere.
When I stepped out of the main entrance into the warm night air, I found him leaning on the wall outside, smoking acigarette.
