Chapter 25

The following morning, there was silence throughout the breakfast Yorro and his guys had made for everyone. Kinzer figured it was appropriate considering it was the big day—potentially their last.

When they finished eating, they reviewed their plan of attack. Quintz and Hayde had helped them navigate through the layout of Janka’s tower. Although the odds that they could actually win this battle were slim to none, they at least had to try. It was take down Janka or watch as the entire world was destroyed…demolished through his plans with the Christ and the Morarkes.

Considering how little time they may have had left, Kinzer was unashamed with how he had his arm around Hayde all morning, like he was unashamed of having his dick inside Hayde’s hole most of the night. They were tired, and maybe they should have found a way to rest up, but who the fuck could rest when the fate of the universe was in their less than capable hands?

They took the Winged Justice’s rigged semitruck for several miles, an eerie quiet stretching between them as they all seemed to acknowledge their worry and fear about the battle that lay ahead of them. When they reached a place to stop a few miles from the coordinates Hayde had provided, they worked together to fly everyone through.

Hayde had his arms and legs around Kinzer, keeping him close as they soared through the sky. It was the sort of hold that made Kinzer feel safe, which he found amusing considering it was just the night before that Kinzer hadn’t trusted Hayde for shit. Now he trusted him entirely.

Quintz followed but stayed farther behind. He hadn’t seemed to want to get very close to Hayde or Kinzer, or so much as talk to them about anything other than the attack, since Kinzer had discovered the truth and embraced Hayde with his everything.

The other immortals followed in tow, several having to carry those who either couldn’t fly or had lost their ability to fly, leaving Aerysn carrying Treycore, and Lanzar and Fyrow carrying Kid and Eilee.

Kinzer found it amusing how defensive Treycore had been when Lanzar had volunteered so quickly to take Kid, and just as amusing how he kept turning his gaze to check to make sure Lanzar didn’t try anything smart on his man. Lanzar seemed to enjoy getting to Treycore, as he kept smiling, waving to him, and offering a wink, as if to demonstrate how much he enjoyed having such power over him.

That so many of their party had to be carried reminded Kinzer of their severe handicap in the battle that was about to ensue.

Hayde ascended higher into a thick cloud cover, guiding them to the mirrored glass that obscured the tower from mortal and immortal view. Kinzer hardly noticed as they passed through until the stark change appeared before them—a gray cloud that fogged their view. Through the fog, he saw ahead of them a dark strip that came more and more into view the closer they got to it.

As they cleared the cloud, Kinzer beheld the construction, at least forty stories high, and solid black metal—not of Earth, but from Hell, the sort of metal that even a nuke would not be able to penetrate.

As Kinzer looked down at the base of the construction, he saw three Morarkes stomping around the perimeter, their tentacles flailing about around them. Beneath their feet, some sort of foliage covered the ground, a thick, vine-like plant. Kinzer knew it wasn’t a plant from Earth, and he was left to speculate on what its purpose was. This definitely wasn’t something Hayde had known about when he was discussing the tower with them.

Hayde descended, heading toward an entrance on the eighth floor, one they’d discussed would be their entry point.

Lanzar and Aerysn flanked Hayde.

“Your boyfriend feels real good,” Lanzar called to Treycore.

Kid rolled his eyes. He was strapped to Lanzar by some bungees the Winged Justice had brought in their truck, something Treycore insisted he wear to ensure his safety.

“You’d better watch what you say,” Treycore called to Lanzar. “We all might die today, but keep that up, and you’ll die a lot sooner.”

Lanzar smirked. “Bring it on, pretty boy.”

“Okay, kids,” Hayde said, “playtime’s over.”

He swooped down, and the others followed after him.

The Morarkes on the ground scanned the sky before moving in their direction.

They’d been discovered.

The first Morarke to reach the tower pressed two of its tentacles up against a wall and used the suction cups on the tentacles to cling to it before it began climbing.

“Little shit,” Kinzer said.

“I got this,” Yorro called from behind Hayde.

“We need to get them all to the other side of the tower,” Hayde said.

“Trey can glide down to the entry point,” Aerysn said. “Then I can come help Yorro.”

“He’s right,” Treycore called out. “You need his speed and agility to keep their attention.”

“Are you ready?” Aerysn asked.
