I liked the sound of her being officially mine.A lot.
“I was thinking you could pay me for the hoodies,” I said with a smirk.
“Our lips will fall out of our faces if kissing is all we do for 48 hours.”
I laughed again. “Well, there’s always Netflix & chill.”
“I can’t believe you just said that. What are we, sixteen?” She pursed her lips.
I gave her a chaste kiss. “Fine. Let me get some food in you so that you start looking like less of a zombie and more of a human, andthenwe’ll decide what to do with our free time.”
She gasped and threw a blueberry at me. “Did you just call me a zombie?!”
I winked and stepped away from her. “Yup.”
She got off the counter and began stomping over to me, but I turned around and started running.
“Come back!” She ran after me. “You shall face my wrath for your insolence.”
I laughed as I dodged my living-room couch. “How dramatic of you, babe.”
She huffed and continued chasing me. “Stop. Running!”
I waited until she was close, and then turned before grabbing her. “Gotcha.”
She squealed and tried to run away, but I lifted her in my arms and walked us to the kitchen. Settling her on a stool, I got to work on making us fresh pancakes.
She watched me while I worked, and then cleared her throat. “So, you won that chase by foul. I get an extra pancake for it.”
I grinned. “You got it.”
“And another for calling me a zombie.”
“Mm-hmm,” I said around a smile.
“And I deserve a kiss for being so patient with your pompous ass.”
I lifted my brows at her. “I amnotpompous, but okay.” I leaned in and pressed a kiss on her blueberry-tasting lips. “There. Happy?”
She hummed as she nodded. “More.”
“Didn’t youjusttell me that our lips would fall off of our faces if we kissed too much?”
She clicked her tongue. “They’re gonna fall off in the future anyway because of the eminent apocalypse that’ll hit us, so why not have mine fall off now?”
I laughed and shook my head. “God, what have I done to deserve you?”
“Oh, a great many things,” she said with excitement. “For example, being hot and sexy; being kind to people; having a husky voice and a too-good-to-be-true smile that gives me mini orgasmsall the time. Being extremely talented, funny, and–”
I shut her up with a kiss. I cupped her face and moved back before looking down at her. “I love you, Zaira Khan,” I said as I looked into her eyes. “I love you.”
My heart soared at my confession. That blood-pumping sucker was proud of me, just as I was of myself.
Zaira’s eyes misted as she held my wrists and smiled up at me. “I love you too,” she whispered. “So much.”
I grinned. “Yeah?”
She nodded. “I do. I think I have been in love with you even before we started dating.” She swallowed once. “But I’m scared, too, Gallan.Soscared. It’s too early, and–”
“We’ll figure things out as they come to us,” I told her. “One day at a time, baby. We got this. I know we do.”
Her smile widened. “Okay then. One day at a time – we’ll face everything that comes at us one day at a time.”
