“Nooooo.” Zaira hugged my waist and buried her face against my chest. “No, please.”

I chuckled as I pushed my hair back. “But you said you wanted to go real bad.”

“I can’t.” She shivered a little. “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.”

I swallowed to hide my laughter. “So what, are you planning on peeing all over my living-room carpet?”

She looked up at me with big, pleading eyes. “Please, can I?”

I grinned. “That’s unhygienic, and you know it, babe.”

She pouted. “But I don’t wanna go to the bathroom.” She blinked repeatedly, with fear written clearly on her face.

I finally let go of my laughter. “It isn’t my fault you wanted to watch the movie at 12a.m. I told you not to, but you were too stubborn and didn’t listen to me.”

“But how could I not watch it, though?” She stomped her right feet. “James freaking McAvoy is in it, so Ihadto! I’ve been putting it off for far too long. Kenzie didn’t wanna watch it, and when you agreed to, I decided to just…watch it.”

When Zaira had seenIT: Chapter 2streaming on Netflix, she’d all but pleaded with me to watch it with her. She hadn’t seen the first, and only wanted to see the second because James McAvoy was one of its cast members. I couldn’t say no to her, so I’d indulged her wish. Little did I know that my girlfriend would turn into a screaming, sobbing, and trembling mess every time Pennywise made an appearance.

She was scared of clowns, and by the time the movie credits had rolled, she’d been fearful out of her skin to even move from the couch, let alone go to the bathroom.

The entire day with her had been heavenly, though. Binging on movies and TV shows, eating food like there was no tomorrow, and kissing at every open chance – that was all we’d been doing.

The last seventeen or so hours with Zaira had been some of the most beautiful hours of my life. I mean it.

“I wanna pee,” she whined. “I can’t hold it in any longer. The dam is about to break! The walls are about to collapse!”

I couldn’t help but laugh, again. “Then let’s just go to the bathroom. It’s only a few steps away, Zaira.”

“No!” She hugged me tighter. “Don’t make me!”

I clicked my tongue and slowly dragged her over to the living-room bathroom.

“Gallan, no! He’s in there! I know he’s in there!!!” She tried to stand her ground, but I continued to bring her closer to the bathroom.

Once we were in, I gently took her arms off of my waist and made her stand in front of the toilet. She turned and faced me, and then began scanning the room to see if she could find Pennywise somewhere.

“Just sit on the damn toilet and pee, Zaira,” I said with a chuckle, but my voice, andmy words, startled her, because she screamed and covered her eyes.

Jesus, that woman really was a character.

“Zaira…”

She whimpered a little. “You sound like him,” she mumbled.

I put a fist to my mouth to contain my growing amusement. “Sound like who?”

She abruptly took her hands off of her eyes and glared at me. “You know who!”

“Baby, there’s no one here. Just sit and pee.”

She sniffed and lifted her hoodie a little.

I turned my back to her and waited for her to get the job done.
