“Aren’t you tired? You just played a four hour game.”

“Not anymore. We athletes have endless energy.” I winked, causing her to roll her eyes. She was so damn cute when she did that.

“Don’t I know it,” she mumbled.

“What was that?”

“Nothing.”

“Tell me about your day.” I laid back against the bed, my head leaning against the headrest.

We talked for another forty-five minutes, Destiny telling me about her day and a couple of new clients she had met with. She brought up the fact that she and Resha had discussed doing a few live events of their podcast, once Resha was stateside again.

“You look like you’re in a normal hotel room,” she noticed after I got up and carried her with me to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

“I am tonight. The hotel didn’t have any suites available.” I shrugged.

“Your security’s okay with that?” I’d told her about the private security my family hired to travel with me.

“I gave them the night off. I’m at the hotel for the rest of the night. I figured they’d want to go out and see the city.” We were playing in New Jersey, but it was a short distance from New York.

“Are you sure that’s safe? Kim Kardashian thought she was good in her hotel room as well.” She frowned into the phone, a concerned expression marring her face.

“You worried about me, Destiny?”

“What do you think?”

“Ithinkyou’d be less worried if you’d taken me up on my offer. You’d be here with me tonight instead of worrying about me from home.” I’d invited her to fly out for my game and to stay that night and catch the red eye with me in the morning but she’d declined.

“I couldn’t,” she reiterated the same excuse she’d come up with earlier. Which wasn’t much of an excuse at all. Something had been occupying her time and she was being tight lipped on what it was.

“Next Sunday. It’s a home game anyway. I’ll get you into the box seats.” I frowned at the way she was shaking her head.

“I ca—”

“It’s not up for debate even if I have to carry you there myself.”

“I’m sure you’d try.”

“And succeed.” I laid back against the bed.

“You need to get some rest.”

I grunted. She was right. I had an earlier flight out than my team since I needed to head back to the West Coast for a half a day for some promotional stuff before making it back to Williamsport for practice the rest of the week.

“So do you,” I retorted.

“I’m going to sleep in a little while. There’s a personal finance book I picked up from the store today that I want to spend some time reading before going to bed.”

I stared, admiring her beauty and her ambition. She was always working to improve her knowledge of her profession.

“Goodnight, Tyler.”

“Night, Destiny.”

I placed my phone on the nightstand by the bed and rose to change into a pair of plaid bottoms. I was feeling tired but I opted to take one of the melatonin pills I often carried with me, since I usually had trouble staying asleep throughout the night. I didn’t use them every night, but considering how busy the next few days were going to be, and all of the time changes I’d been going through, I figured it was wise to try and get as much sleep as possible.

My head hit the pillow and I was out like a lamp. Needless to say, Destiny’s face was the last thing I remembered thinking about before totally passing out.
