I shook my head.
“Ah, man, come on. You never come out anymore. This ain’t the Tyler I know.”
I glanced up from my phone, looking over at Kelvin. “Maybe it’s a different me.”
Smirking, he shook his head. “Sprung. Just like I told you.”
I laughed but didn’t say anything else as we walked to the awaiting cars.
“All right, man, we’ll be at Club Phoenix, if you change your mind.”
I gave him a head nod and we clapped hands and fist bumped before going our separate ways. The driver was just barely pulling off when my thumb was pressing down to call Destiny’s number.
“Nice game, Mr. Townsend,” her breathy voice answered.
“What did I tell you about that Mr. Townsend bullshit?” I retorted.
“Aren’t you touchy for a guy who just passed for a hundred and fifteen yards. Sheesh.”
I smiled, something feeling right about the way she’d memorized my stats. She seemed to do that after every game.
“Trust me, Destiny, I’m not nearly as touchy as I’d like to be.”
She giggled. “So you say.”
“Are we back on this again?”
“No.We’re not back on anything. That’s the problem.”
I smiled at the pout I heard in her voice. I wondered if her nose wrinkled up while she pouted like I’d seen it do before.
“There’s no problem except what I’ve already told you.”
I heard her push out a heavy breath and I just knew her dark brown eyes were rolling skyward.
“You seem to think I wasn’t ready.”
“You weren’t.”
“Tyler, I’m a grown ass woman. I know when I’m ready or not. Trust me, I was plenty ready.”
“Not for what I had in store.”
I heard her breath hitch.
I entered my hotel’s room.
“I want to see your face. Hang up the phone,” I instructed, shutting my door behind me.
“How do you know I want to FaceTime with you?”
“You do. Hang up the phone.”
She hesitated, and a charge of electricity flowed through me. Her defiance turned me on more than she knew. It’d make it all so much better once she finally submitted.
She hung up the phone and I called her right back, this time via FaceTime.
“That’s better,” I stated as I stared into my phone’s screen, taking in the rich hue of her skin and chocolate eyes. She wore an off-the-shoulder Cougars T-shirt I’d seen her wear once before during our FaceTime chats. I made a mental note to buy her a Cougars’ jersey that had my name emblazoned across the back. Figured she might as well get used to wearing my last name as soon as possible.
