Poor Kofi had been busy keeping my fingers trapped in his while we sat in the theatre. I blamed the darkness for the fact that I kept getting the urge to touch him in the most inappropriate ways. Sitting through the ninety-minute production was torture and before the show ended, I dragged him home and fell into bed with him. Now, I ran one finger over the contours of his muscles as his chest moved slowly up and down.
He grabbed my hand when my finger roamed close to his nipple. "Are you trying to start something else, Miss Chin?"
I giggled and gently bit his chest near his armpit, inhaling his uniquely masculine scent. "No, I am completely satisfied right now."
The amusement in his voice was obvious when he said, "That would be a first."
I got on my elbow and stared at him. Darkness covered most of the room, but the light from the window was enough for me to see into his eyes. "For your information, each time you make love to me is like a new, exciting adventure."
Kofi laughed, a low sensuous sound that made me want him again. "Then I'd say you're big on adventure."
"Only with you," I said, nestling against his chest.
He ran a hand over my hip and kissed the top of my head. "Am I to believe sex is no longer your cure-all?"
"It never was, despite what you thought. I simply enjoy it with you."
"Miss Chin, you need to face facts. You've been getting better, but you have a little way to go."
"I admit that, but honestly I'm at the point where I don't think about Christopher anymore when I'm in the moment."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Kofi. When I'm with you,I'm with you."
"That's good to know." He waited a few beats before continuing. "You know, Miss Chin, you're like an addiction. One that grows on you when you aren't looking."
A huge smile covered my face and I waited, sensing he'd say more.
I wasn't disappointed.
"It seems as if one day, you were just my gym buddy and by the next, you took over my life and planted yourself in my heart."
"Is that so?"
He kissed my ear, nipping the lobe. "Yes, it is so. And now, I don't want to spend the rest of my life without you."
For a moment I stopped breathing. I was sure of it. Then the air spewed from my chest in a long blast. "I feel that way about you too, Kofi."
"You're actually admitting it?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Because you tend to keep things inside. You let them marinate until you're ready to express your feelings. Or not."
My hand wandered over his stomach as I blinked away tears. "It's scary how well you understand me after such a short time."
He lifted the hair away from my face and whispered in my ear. "Like I said, I've been studying you."
"And what have you found?"
"That you are a trooper, despite the bad things that have happened to you. That our differences do not matter and that you are the woman I want."
"You know all that, huh?"
"Yes, I've made up my mind about you, Miss Chin."
Shaking my head, I said, "You better stop calling me that."
