“How could you possibly miss that she was on the run?”

“I was… um… cleaning up.”

Cole scrubbed a hand over his face. Looked like he might’ve been covering up the fact he was laughing. “So now you want to travel with my sister and she doesn’t want you to. Is that it?”

“She wants me to. She said she loves me, but she thinks I’ll be unhappy if I cut way back on my work with the wild horses.”

“Because you indicated that at the Raccoon.”

“I know. Mila caught me by surprise. But I’ve seen the light.”

“After you had some amazing sex?”

“Yes, but I swear it’s not the sex talking, which is what she thinks. It just cleared out the cobwebs so I could see that Mila was right.” He gazed at Cole. “That can happen sometimes.”

“No.”

“Then she’ll be in touch.”

“Thanks.” He walked back to his casita. His future was in the hands of a man he’d met just hours ago. But Jordan trusted her brother. So would he.

Chapter Thirty-Six

“Jordie, it’s me.”

She blew her nose and tossed the tissue in the trash. “Is he out there?”

Taking off his hat, Cole came in, filling the space the way Luis had. Tears threatened again and she grabbed another tissue from the box.

“Ah, Jordie. Don’t cry.” He hugged her close.

She lost it, soaking his shirt. “I d-don’t cry.”

“That’s why I know this guy’s important to you.”

“I love him, damn it.”

“He told me. He loves you, too.”

“I know! That’s the p-problem! He’s gonna give up his beloved wild horse training for m-me.”
