She broached the subject of a certain football god and I giggled.
“Oh my Lord,” Chyna’s voice betrayed her delight.
“What?”
“I heard there was dinner plans.”
“There are, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m still not sure how to feel about our past.”
“Don’t complicate things,” Chyna said. “We as humans tend to do that.”
“It’s already complicated,” I replied.
“I will text you my itinerary, but I wanted to tell you that I’d booked the tickets. We’re staying at a nice hotel near Kelton’s place. I can’t wait to see your face.”
“Same. Love ya!”
We said our goodbyes and I peered out into the outer office looking for signs of Dani; people were milling around and talking to each other while Lauren Vanderberger decorated the walls of the office. Dani was nowhere in sight but I figured she had had her cellphone nearby and would hit me back.
Drunken Chimp and Dirty Mojitos, tonight!
I sent the text and leaned back in my desk. Before I knew it, I was on Messy Mandy’s Instagram page looking for celebrity gossip because where Lauren’s face was on the wall, I knew mine would be up there next.
I could feel the promotion in my bones.
Fuck you Krista,I thought.May the best bitch win!
Chapter10
Kelton
Sports Center was playing in the background as I made myself dinner which consisted of some ramen, an egg, scallions and a few pieces of seared beef. Closing the refrigerator I stared at the sonogram decorating the fridge. This had made things truly and utterly real for me. Slowly I traced the shape of my child.
A boy.
I was having a son with a woman I didn’t love and who didn’t love me either. Neither of us were exactly thrilled about the circumstances surrounding the birth of the baby but we were over the moon about it.
My phone dinged softly on the counter behind me, the melody catching my attention, and my head nearly spun around. To my surprise it was Silver, texting me.
You should come over…
Damn she just gets straight to the point sometimes. I liked that shit a lot. With all the history between us there was no need to beat around the bush.
Tell me what you need,I replied.
What?
I grinned.Tell me.
Ugh,she texted back. What does that mean?
Tell me what you need me to do to you, Silver. It’s nearly midnight and I have practice early in the morning.
I need to him…
Him who?
A grin cracked on my face as I shoveled ramen into my mouth. The MSG hit my tongue along with the noodles and I felt like I was a teenager again. It had been a minute since I’d talked to a woman and wanted to kick my feet up on the wall and flirt and joke.
