“Okay, well, I’ll let you know when we head to the airport.”
“Can’t wait to see you!”
“I can’t wait either. Mom is so excited!”
“Alright later, love you.”
Ending the phone call, I skipped back inside excited. Security buzzed me in and I stepped onto the elevator. My phone vibrated in my hand again. Looking down I saw that it was Chyna texting me.
Give me a call as soon as you can.
Her text sounded so cryptic but I made a note to get up with her later. The elevator dinged to let me know that I had reached my floor.
Chapter6
Kelton
The locker room had been hell since my quote unquote, sex tape had dropped. Luckily, the only person that was visible in the video was me. If the identity of that woman ever got out it would ruin lives.
Me,though?
All it had done for me was bolster my brand. My public relations manager ran with it. I’d booked a few gigs that had paid for an interview. However, I was doingGood Morning, Sacramentofor free. The people of this city loved me. I was winning games and looking good while doing it.
You know exactly why you’re doing this damned interview, the voice inside my head whispered as I starred at my reflection in the mirror.
On this Thursday morning, I had pulled on a neutral looking gray suit and gelled my dark blond hair back with some product. Reaching over onto the double sink, I picked up my favorite cologne and gave myself a few sprits.
“Silver is going to see you, and she’s going to give you a fucking date.”
My cheeks flexed in my reflection and I shook my head before leaving out of my bedroom. The sight of the crib I’d put together a few nights ago in the spare bedroom caused me to stop in my tracks. Sun was shining warmly into the room illuminating the white furniture and it made me reflect.
You have a child on the way.
A child whose life that I would very much be a part of.
Speeding towards the news station, I tried to calm my nerves. I’d been on edge at the thought of being responsible for an entire human being since I’d found out. The guard at the station directed me where to park and how to enter the building.
The elevator brought me up to the correct floor and I stopped by the front desk to get badged in.
“Oh my god!” the guy at the front desk spoke. “You’re Kelton Kline.”
I gave a nod and we struck up a conversation as he printed my paper badge. After promising him some free tickets, he told me how I could find Silver’s office.
“Thanks man,” I nodded.
“No thank you, getting Knights tickets is hard as hell these days.”
Finding my way to the elevator, I stepped inside. It smelled a little stuffy but the fresh scent of pine lingered as if someone had just ran a bleach wipe over every crevice. The soft ding filled my ears and I stepped off onto the floor unsure of exactly where to go.
Someone was standing by a copy machine and from the back it looked like Silver. Lightly, I tapped her shoulder.
Surprise filled me to the core when the woman turned and I found myself face to face with someone who only looked like Silver.
“I’m sorry, I thought….I thought you were someone I knew,” I gave a friendly smile.
“Oh, who are you looking for?” She didn’t return the smile, only raised an eyebrow and held the papers she’d been printing close to her chest.
“I’m looking for Silver Crane, I was told her office was on this floor.”
