“I did, but they’re closing the main office for painting and won’t be open again until Monday. Anyway they called me to get the keys now…”
I offered another smile. “Yeah, go ahead and leave early. We’re prepped and ready for next week’s segments anyway.”
“Are you sure?” she asked.
I nodded again, waving her off. Excitedly, she headed off and I checked the time on my cellphone. Thoughts of Kelton and his sex tape vanished and turned to me needing to call my mother and sister. They were catching a flight in the morning to come and visit me. I honest to God couldn’t wait to see them.
My sister Simone’s line began to ring. I’d called her because more than likely she was with our mother helping her pack.
“Sis!” Simone’s cheerful voice filled my ears.
“Are you with mom?” I asked.
“No, she ran to the store to make sure Keith has extra snacks,” Simone laughed.
Our mom rarely left our step father home alone by himself. The man was going to be completely and utterly lost without her.
“Why are they so old and cute,” I gushed.
“It’s sick,” Simone replied.
“You don’t do cute stuff like that for Derek?” I leaned my head back against seat waiting for my answer.
“Derek is satisfied,” Simone replied.
“Is that a no?”
“It is.”
“You’re so cold,” I laughed.
“You’re one to talk. When’s the last time you had sex. Hell, better yet…when’s the last time you got yourself some.”
I rolled my eyes. “Hey! I gets mine okay!”
“Girl just because you have a Rose on charge in your room does not mean you’re getting yours. Honestly, Sil…when’s the last time you had a man?”
I was starting to remember why I barely called her ass lately. My sister had been prom queen and had married the prom king. Now they were living a comfortable middle class type of lifestyle with two kids and matching Toyota Camerys.
Taking a breath, I replied. “Dating has been scarce. I’m focused.”
“Damn, at least get on a dating app or something. You gotta get laid soon sis…or your shit is going to dry up like a prehistoric river.”
I coughed.
“What?”
“You heard me, Sil.”
“OMG,” I shook my head.
I was moments away from telling her that the last time I’d had sex had been with my mortal enemy. Before I could spill the beans my phone vibrated. I was needed back inside the television station.
“Look, I gotta go, my manager needs to talk with me.”
“Everything okay?”
“It’s work shit,” I shrugged.
