Chapter Two

A tight sensation in the middle of my chest reminded me it was time to breathe. I sucked in a wildly excited breath, my heart racing with the strength of my emotion. I wanted to tell him we could go straight away. Why did we need dinner when we could have dessert? Cripes, I didn’t want him to change his mind. Thinking too much was bad for the health!

“Think of it as foreplay,” he said, almost as if he’d read my thoughts.

“Um…okay.”

“Sophie, you don’t have to.”

“Oh, Iwantto.” A blush swept through me on hearing the vehement tone.

Desire flared in his eyes, and instantly my mouth was dry, my body on fire.

Isaac cleared his throat. “How about if I order our meals?”

I nodded. Anything to get this show on the road.

“You still like pasta and seafood?”

I nodded again, making him laugh.

“A woman of few words.” Isaac released my hand and stood. “Won’t be long. I’ll have the waiter get you a drink. White wine?”

“Please.” I watched him stride through the restaurant. The view was stunning, a tight butt that made me conscious of mine. Frantically I tried to remember what underwear I’d donned after my shower. My forehead crinkled as I concentrated. Cripes, I couldn’t remember. And on second thought, I didn’t want to remember. Most of my panties were the plain cotton variety, and since my pregnancy, my stomach didn’t suck in like a well-behaved stomach should. Eek! I inhaled rapidly to dispel my lightheaded panic.

What was I thinking?

“Don’t.” A masculine hand settled on my shoulder. He planted a kiss on my upturned lips, and to give the man credit, he didn’t even check to see who was looking before he did it. Isaac settled in the seat opposite me. “Don’t you dare think like that.”

“Like what?” I said, pretending innocence.

“If you’re having second thoughts because you think it’s too soon, that’s okay. We can talk it through. If you’re stressing because of the age difference that’s another story.”

Isaac’s face was deadly serious as he leaned over the table and caressed my cheek. He traced a blunt-tipped finger across my lips, and I fought the need to open my mouth and take his finger inside. My stomach fluttered while he seduced me with plain speaking.

“You have a gorgeous smile, beautiful blue eyes that remind me of the ocean on a clear day. Your hair is soft and shiny and reminds me of honey and sunshine. Your shape is plain sexy with gorgeous curves that make me ache to touch. You’re beautiful, Sophie. I’m not sure how old you are, but you don’t look old enough to have a daughter of Susan’s age.”

“Thanks,” I whispered, the lump of emotion in my throat threatening to choke me. The glow of honesty in his eyes made mefeelbeautiful.

“But that’s not the main attraction, Sophie.”

It wasn’t? I felt my eyes widen in questioning mode. “Well, you can’t be desperate,” I blurted.

A bark of laughter escaped him. “I’m not. Work keeps me busy, but I have plenty of time to play.If I want.”

Oh, boy. The wicked glint in his eyes, echoed in his grin, told me he was ready to play now. My body tightened all over, even the stubborn stomach.

“It’s your personality. You’re a good person, Sophie, and I find that very seductive. Very sexy.”

I resisted the need to fan myself. Yep, I was his for the taking.

A young girl arrived bearing a bottle of white wine. She showed the label to Isaac, and at his nod, deftly opened the bottle.

“Go ahead and pour, Gina,” Isaac said.

When the waitress left, Isaac picked up my hand. A neat habit. I liked it because it made me feel special, as if I was important to him. For an instant, I pondered my underwear again before shoving the topic aside. I’d insist on the lights being off, and first thing tomorrow, I was off to the shops to replenish my smalls with lace and bras that screamed sex siren.

“How long are you over for?” he asked.
