She flushes a little when she takes his hand. Ah, she thinks my friend is attractive.
“That’s me. And you’re one of Axel’s friends I presume?”
I don’t bother speaking. I like the exchange and that dress has my girls out.
“Yes and no. We’re friends but I’m here for business.”
“Fun. What kind of business? Or is this the part where I mind my business?” Her question is a jab at me.
Heaven leads us to sit at her kitchen table where Beau puts his briefcase down then rolls up his white shirt sleeves.
“Well, I’m your lawyer.”
“Lawyer?” Her big eyes grow in diameter then she nods when her brain catches up. “That’s what he meant by cease and desist…”
“Yeah.” He gives her a grin. “Do you have any questions?”
Heaven laughs. “We both know I’m just your client on paper. This is the ‘big guy’s’ show.”
I laugh but pull her into my lap and plant a kiss on her shoulder. “I would say it’s a lie, but I can’t find one. There’s no mercy for the parties in this claim,” I say.
“Parties?” she asks.
“Ashley, Dre, and her Dad,” I let her know. “All of them are on my shit list. We just got Dre fired.”
Heaven’s body vibrates in my lap as she giggles. “Sucks for him.”
Her phone chimes in rapid succession then rings. When she doesn’t move to get it, the text chimes start again.
“Who wants to bet he just found out?” Heaven jokes.
Beau is in his zone, a shark looking for blood, so I’m not surprised when he rises to retrieve the phone. His green eyes glow with challenge as he reads the messages. He hates bullies—especially, rich ones. His family has generational wealth so he’s been rich his entire life. Unlike some rich families, his remains humble enough to not use their wealth for the wrong kind of power.
“Yup. This is good. His anger is just giving me more ammo. Keep talking, asshole. Do you have a voicemail?”
Heaven rolls her eyes but dials her voicemail on speaker. Ashley’s voice fills the room.
“Hey, bitch. You saw me calling. Dre told me he was fired. What’s wrong? You don’t like how I took your man? He doesn’t need that job, dumbass, he has me. This is why I took every chance possible in Hawaii to show you the life you wanted. Your man, your vacation, and your wedding. I took it all. Take the loss. Please unblock me so I can tag your pathetic ass in my wedding photos. I’d love to rub it in your face more.”
“May I?” Beau asks with his hand extended for the phone. He forwards the voicemail, then screenshots the texts. “I’m glad they’re stupid. They make my job so much easier.”
I pluck up the phone because I want to see the texts.
Unknown: You’re going to pay for getting me fired.
Unknown: If you thought the other story was bad, the new one will end your career.
Unknown: You’ll wish you fought for me.
“What a joke,” I grumble. “He really thinks he’s that special?”
The other texts were similar with a bunch of ‘me’, ‘me,’ ‘me.’ He’s beyond self-centered.
We move to another subject once Keri and Latoya arrive with food for everyone. I’m happy to see Beau laughing at Latoya’s wild personality. It’s good for him to forget at least for a day.
Heaven
I wake up and roll to my side only to lock eyes with Axel’s. He held true to his promise to fuck me in my bed. The moment everyone left, he’d pounced to keep his word. Waking up with him in my bed is a healthy dose of reality. I wasn’t caught under a Malibu spell. I really have feelings for him. Axel doesn’t speak, he just grabs me and pulls me on top of him. The moment I find my bearings, he slides inside in one deep soul-kissing stroke.
