My best friend is stunning. Long, straight brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skin. Naturally beautiful. She should model with me but prefers to work an office job as an executive assistant to a CEO. As she walks to the fridge, she asks, “Do you need any milk while I’m here?”

“No, thank you. It’s an espresso for me this morning.”

She takes out the milk, ready for the mocha she has every morning.

When my cup has been filled, I breathe in the heavenly scent, then bring the cup to my lips and take a sip of the hot, bitter drink.

Piper’s eyes go to my hand, then bulge. “I can’t believe you got married.”

I let out a long groan. “Me too.”

Her lips press into a thin line. “It’s so unlike you. You must have been really drunk. I’m a little disappointed I missed out.”

“You didn’t miss anything and anyway, I’m already organizing the divorce papers.”

“He must be hot.”

I take another sip, then grin over the edge of my cup. “He’s gorgeous. Like the full bad-boy swagger, but his swoon-worthy smile had my panties wet.”

Her head falls back as she laughs. “Have you got a photo? I need to see this fine specimen before you divorce him.”

“I haven’t even looked.” I walk over and place my coffee on the table before I go to my room to find my phone in my bag. I go through my photos as I make my way back to Piper.

I come across a photo of me and Viper smiling. He has his arm around me, and our hands are up showing our wedding rings. I’m slightly taken aback by the happiness shining from me in this picture, even though my eyes appear glazed. I turn my phone around and show it to Piper, who takes it from me to get a better look.

“He’s handsome. His beard is perfectly manicured and his hair is neat, except for the unruly piece that falls near his eyes, which is very sexy, may I add. It’s such a turn-on when a man takes proper care of himself,” I say.

“What’s his body like?” she asks.

I try to think back. “His body was hard, and he had a six-pack.”

“At least you didn’t marry a slob with a beer belly. He looks after himself, so you two have that in common,” she says as she passes me my phone. I place it on the freestanding charger by the wall on the counter.

“True…” I answer while remembering him undressing me with his eyes. “Oh, Piper, he’s something else.” I do a chef’s kiss. “From his sexy deep voice to his hard body.” I sigh. “We couldn’t keep our hands off each other. It was a good night… well, from what I can remember.”

I take a seat, and bring my cup to my mouth again.

“Are you still going to the gym today?” Piper asks.

“Considering all the calories I had, I have to.”

“I might join you. How was the get-together, anyway? Did you see Zara and Knox? How’s Zara doing?”

“Knox’s nickname is Bomber. It took me a while to get my head around it, but Knox and Zara were good. Knox was glued to her all night. Even when us women were dancing, he wasn’t too far away. It’s sweet that they got back together. Zara’s been through hell. She’s so strong.”

Piper takes her coffee, walks over, and sits next to me. She cringes and then asks, “How were the other women?”

I don’t have many female friends—it’s just me and Piper in New York.

“They were quiet… I thought they were going to be loud, bitchy women. They were far from it. Ava, the one with the War Brothers MC president, apologized to people when she accidentally bumped into them while dancing.” I laugh, thinking back to that. “Elena was nice too. That’s Ava’s sister; she’s with another MC member, Axle. The banter between those two was hilarious.”

Piper’s eyes are wide as she stirs her coffee. “Next time you’ll have to invite me. What did you say to your sexy husband before you left?”

I flinch. “I didn’t say anything.”

She laughs. “What do you mean you didn’t say anything? You just left your husband in bed and did a runner?”

“Pretty much. It’s not like normal, where a guy slept over and I kicked him out the next morning. Viper knew who I was and what I do because it was a family event. I was in uncharted waters, with a ring on my finger.”
