Iwasthe alien here. Holy shit. That was freaking weird. Of course I was the alien. Why hadn’t I thought of that before?

Cool.I was an alien. “If I’m an alien now, can I have one of those cool blaster guns I’ve seen? I think they would be really fun to shoot.”

“No.”

“Do you have anything like the light sabers inStar Wars?I’ve wanted one of those since I saw the new movies. It’s a sword made out of light that will cut through anything.”

“Absolutely not.”

“Do you have a spaceship? Can you take me flying?”

“I do not own my own ship. Perhaps I can arrange a trip for us. Once we are free.”

I’d completely forgotten that he was a wanted murderer who broke out of prison and had the entire planet hunting for him. I contemplated our not-so-guaranteed future in silence, comforted by Kovo’s renewed stroking of my back, his steady breathing and his heat. No teddy bear had ever been this good.

“What are these movies? You repeatedly mention them.”

“You don’t have movies? They are stories on video. Real people, well it can be cartoon characters, too. They act out a story and people watch it.”

He said nothing for a few minutes. “I would like to see this thing. Movies.”

“I’ll take you sometime. We’ll get a large popcorn, load it up with butter, and toss in some candy.”

He looked down at me, our gazes locked, happiness in his eyes that I was very sure was also reflected in mine. “I understand half of what you say, but I will trust you, mate, not to poison me or lead me astray.”

“Deal.” I chewed my bottom lip and tried to decide if I was ready to know the answer, or if I should keep my mouth shut.

Damn it. I had to know.

“Kovo, why were you in that prison cell? And don’t tell me it’s because you killed someone you weren’t supposed to. I do not believe that. I am calling bullshit. So tell me the truth.”

My emotions flashed with dread, made my head and heart heavy. Not me, the beast.

“And why is your beast so upset about it?”

Kovo sighed. “You are my mate.”

“Yes. I am. I’m not giving you up. My Everian brain decided you were mine, so I’m keeping you.”

“As my beast has claimed you.”

“Sounds like a plan. But I need to know what is going on with you. I don’t believe what they said about you. It’s impossible.”

“I have killed many times. Why is this so difficult for you to believe?”

I wanted to slap him. He was evading. “Enemies don’t count. Bad guys don’t count. War doesn’t count. Soldiers follow orders. I understand that. But when I had to leave you, they showed me your records. It says you killed your own brother.”

“I do not wish to speak of it.”

“Tough. I want to know. I need to know.”

Kovo rolled off the bed and reached for his pants.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

“I cannot hold you and speak of such things.”

“Okay.” I watched him pull his pants up over his hips. His legs disappeared. His cock disappeared. Damn. But I could still see those ripped abs and massive chest. Plus, he was barefoot, which somehow made him adorable. Not that I would ever use that word out loud. It would be like telling a crocodile it was cute while it was trying to pull you down to the water, roll you under and feast on you later. Not the best plan.
