He held his hand out. “What did I say? You offer to pay me one more time and I’ll do something drastic.”

She didn’t want to ask what that might be.

Kenzie liked Evan.A lot.More than she should. The way he kept protecting her both annoyed and tickled her because he clearly cared. Most men would lunge at a woman offering sex. Evan kept making sure it was what she wanted.

Man, going down on him had been sexy. She wondered what he thought about it. Did he revisit their time together over and over in his mind? Or was she the one too fixated on simple pleasure?

Being forward seemed to please him. He had said he’d gone without for six months, but she knew that wasn’t because he hadn’t had any offers. At the soccer game, she’d overheard more than one woman talking about him.

She’d been jealous.

But why shouldn’t she be? Had she ever had a sexier accountant? Evan wore a pair of reading glasses, another button-down, untucked shirt, and faded jeans. He looked like a cover model advertising casual chic.

And he was ignoring her.

Focused on her paperwork, he frowned. “Hey, Kenzie? I’m going to head into my office for a little bit to look this over. You can set up on my dining room table if you want to work. I won’t be long. I swear.”

“No problem. Thanks.” She forced herself to sound chipper, but Kenzie was a mess. Did he not feel the pull between them anymore? Because she couldn’t think of anything but getting him naked and inside her again.

She’d turned into a nymphomaniac, apparently. Having gone so long in her life without sex, the first few times she’d had it, she’d liked it. The first boy had been a little clumsy but sweet. Her second and third lovers pleasant but forgettable, sadly. Bryce had been her best when they’d developed a rhythm that worked for them both. But not like this. With Bryce, the emotional connection had made the sex better.

But with Evan, the sex was amazing from the get-go, and her feelings for him continued to deepen even more because of it. She didn’t know him all that well, but she feared she’d started to fall hard for the man. She thought about him all the time, and when she wasn’t thinking about him, she was dreaming about him.

Kenzie had been wondering how to handle tonight, to let him lead or to once again take charge. She liked giving the orders. She did what she wanted and didn’t hold back. But Evan didn’t seem too eager for more than her paperwork. He’d barely glanced at her before disappearing into his office. Perhaps he’d had enough. Some guys just needed to get off with whomever they had at their disposal, and then the passion slowed. Or so Lila and Rachel complained.

The sexual times had slowed with Bryce, but they’d had so much more to deal with than just doing the deed. They’d had their jobs and Daniel and their friends. Bryce’s family, a new job. Then a trial separation when he’d been traveling for said job. Sex hadn’t been important, and Bryce had found it easy to ignore her.

Oh my God. Evan is not Bryce. Evan loved sex with you. He came. You came. Stop overanalyzing.

Neurotic and wishing she could turn off her brain, she did her best to focus on Rob Talon’s proposal. He’d given her a few ideas of what he was looking for by phone conference the other day, and she had two more weeks to put a professional package together.

Working on her laptop, she’d finally lost herself in her project when Evan called her name. To her surprise, almost two hours had gone by. She’d need to get home soon. Daniel had no problem with her being gone. He was a teenager, after all, and Lila had stayed home tonight to work, so she’d be in and out of the house.

But Kenzie liked letting her brother know where she was because they took comfort from each other. And though he’d never admit it, she knew he worried about being left alone. With their parents gone, it really was just down to him and her.

“Kenzie? Can you come here for a minute?” Evan called from his office.

“Sure.” She saved her work and tracked him down. The moving man was gone, and in his place sat a professional brainiac. Evan had rolled up his sleeves. His glasses framed his already masculine face, giving him that sexy smart guy look, and the light gray of his eyes gleamed with intelligence.

Kenzie had never been more attracted to a man.

“Can you look over this and let me know if I have it right?” He had pulled up a chair next to him at his desk.

Disappointed that her libido needed to take a back seat to her brain, she spent the next half hour reviewing her forms with Evan.

“Okay, so you’ll pay a small penalty for not filing extensions, but I reviewed some of your write-offs and deductions and balanced what I thought looked off. You should be good now.”

“Thanks so much.”

“Don’t thank me yet. I’d suggest a thorough audit to figure out where things stand for your company, but that takes time.” He took off his glasses, and she fought the urge to ask him to put them back on. “Kenzie, we need to talk.”

She swallowed, nervous. “Okay. Talk.”

“The other night… I feel like maybe I came on too strong. And I wanted to apologize for that.”

She felt poleaxed. “For the sex?”

“What? Hell no. That was perfect, and I want to do it again.”
