She relaxed. “Oh. Good. Okay then.”
“I meant I thought about what you said, and I’m sorry if I keep sounding like I don’t trust your judgment. I do. I mean, you’re a grown woman. If you want to have sex in my car, we can go out there right now and do it again.”
She grinned. “Really?”
She wanted to crow with glee. Though she appreciated his apology, she’d rather they kissed and solved their differences with tongue.
Oh yeah. She’d definitely become a horndog. So did that mean Evan had become the shy girlfriend she needed to seduce into bed? Too funny.
“Why do you look like you’re trying not to laugh at me?” he asked, wary.
“Sorry. It’s not you. I’m happy to be with you.”
He relaxed. “Good. It’s just, I’m not saying this right. I should probably show you.”
He just watched her.
“Okay. Show me.”
His wicked grin turned her to jelly. “I was hoping you’d say that.” He lifted her in his arms then tossed her over his shoulder as if she weighed nothing.
“Evan. What are youdoing?” she asked, breathless, as he raced upstairs.
“Getting ready to show you what you’ve been missing. Because car sex ain’t got nothing on bed sex.”
Chapter 14
All that talk in the car Tuesday night about not wanting to lose her then acting standoffish had almost lost him the girl. Ironic.
Evan needed to get his head on straight. More, he needed to show Kenzie that he was a man who could make her melt. His only excuses in coming so fast both times were that, one, it had been a while, and two, Kenzie had shocked him with those moves in the car. In both cases he hadn’t had time to mentally prepare himself.
But he wanted to show her she really should hold onto him. He’d helped with her books. He was a handy guy around the house and planned to fix whatever had broken. He had money, more than he needed, and he’d show her in some non-grandstanding way she could count on him financially.
She needed to see that he was a keeper. Because fool that he was, he’d fallen in love with the woman. At first sight, if that didn’t beat all.
As she’d come through the door earlier, his heart had stopped. Seeing her smile started it again, feeling her warmth in every part of his body.
Her happiness mattered more than anything, he realized. Crazy as he knew it to be. Kenzie had baggage she’d clearly claimed, as well as a hurt he suspected had yet to heal. And he had his own issues, his mother’s health notwithstanding.
But when he stood next to Kenzie, nothing else seemed to matter.
And that sex in the car… He’d never forget it.Ever.Because the memory of her mouth over him, her vulnerability when she’d asked if she could kiss him, had been seared into his brain.
He could only be thankful that Bryce guy hadn’t realized what a gem he’d had in Kenzie. Now Evan just had to convince her to take a chance on him and not come across as a lovesick fool in the process.
“Where are you taking me, you crazy person?” she asked, laughing, over his shoulder. She slapped his butt a few times. “Oh, so firm.”
He grinned. “You seem to like being in charge.”
“I do.”
He set her down on her feet and steadied her when she wavered.
“Sorry. Blood rushing from my head.”
“Right. Now, I think I need to show you what you’ve been missing. Don’t get me wrong. I like you telling me what to do. And I for sure loved your kissing me in the car.” Fuck, he was hard. “But I think it’s time for me to make you mindless for a bit. What do you say?”
Her pupils looked impossibly large. Her eyes dark, her lips a rosy pink he wanted to kiss all night long. “So, you want to make love here?”
