The police being involved was interesting. I had no expectation they would do anything about it. When it came to omega and alpha affairs, they acted as if they were at a loss of what to do. I knew it was because alphas ranked high in the world, not just physically, but status-wise. It was like going after a high-ranking official or celebrity. “Doubt the cops are going to do much about it.”

“I doubt it as well. But we have our feelers out and allies we can trust who are helping us. We aren’t totally alone.”

I rolled my shoulders back, resigning myself to the reality of my new life. I couldn’t live in hiding. In a way, I was a celebrity, and I would attract dangerous characters. Yes, if I thought of it that way, it all felt less daunting. I’d have to have a bodyguard around, but I was actually used to being watched over in some shape or fashion with my dad being so high up. I would not get depressed. I would push through. That’s what dad would have wanted. It’s what I wanted.

I stood up and stretched my arms over my head. Time to get to work. Everyone would know why I had been out. I really hated people knowing my business, but it was the way of the world. At least they were understanding.

I felt a soft bite on my left buttock. “Ouch,” I said, not really in pain. It actually felt kind of good. I turned sideways to give Daniel a playful glare.

He had the nerve to look very unapologetic. “Sorry, not sorry. You had that beautiful ass just exposed, and I couldn’t ignore it.” He waved me back toward him. “Come back to bed.”

I shook my head, quickly backing away. “No way. I’ll never leave if I do.” I then turned and ran into the bathroom.

The first two hours into work continued to be fine. No unnatural sweats or cramps. I was a little hot but nothing more.

After my latest patient left, Ty walked up to me and put the back of his hand against my forehead. “You’re kind of hot.”

His hand was cold against my forehead, and I supposed that anything was burning to his vampire skin. I removed his hand, kissing his palm, which brought a smile to his lips. That smile, so boyish and tender, brought a spark to my stomach. I really liked him. Alpha or not, I would totally date him, and there was an instinct in me that wanted to make him happy.

“I think I’m okay, Ty. But I can pretend to be in heat later tonight,” I replied with a wiggle of my brows.

He pulled me to him, mashing my chest against his. “I’d like that very much.” He kissed me, nibbling on my bottom lip.

I moaned into his mouth. If we kept this up, I would not be coming out of this room, and I really didn’t want my coworkers to think I was an out-of-control sex fiend like some people preferred to believe about omegas.

Luckily, or unluckily, there was a knock at the door. I reluctantly pulled back from Ty, pouting. “Yes?”

The door opened, and a petite woman with black hair answered. Nurse Wong. “Hi, Billie, there is a man out in the waiting area asking for you. Looks very dapper. Haven’t seen him with you before, but I think he’s alpha.” She glanced quickly over to Ty with nervous eyes. I knew the alphas made her uncomfortable, but she always stared at them with curiosity. “Our guards are near him. Says his name is Anil.”

I rolled my eyes. What was he doing here? I thought I’d made it very clear that I was not interested. “Do you mind having someone escort him back here?”

She nodded and left. I would have met him out in the waiting room but causing scenes wasn’t my thing. When she left, I looked over to Ty, whose face was a solemn mask of concern. “You okay with him seeing you after all this time?”

He shrugged, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “I’ll have to be.”

“We can get Kai or Daniel to teleport here.”

He shook his head, stubborn. I knew he felt like he would be letting me down, but I didn’t want him to have that kind of pressure on himself. “I’m fine. I think it’s good he sees me. Maybe he’ll leave you alone if he knows I’m with you. We aren’t friends, but we aren’t sworn enemies either.”

I moved to sit down in a chair, and Ty remained standing. Anil soon appeared in the doorway, dressed in a blue three-piece suit looking just as sophisticated as Nurse Wong said he did. “Billie, sorry to bother you, but I heard about the attack at the HQ and have been wanting to…” His voice trailed off as he looked over to Ty. He raised his brows in surprise and paused his walking. “Is it you, old friend?”

Ty gave a curt nod, looking the coldest I’d ever seen him. “Long time no see.”

“Why are you here?”

I wrinkled my brow, eyeing Anil with suspicion. I had just assumed that Chilli had mentioned that I was seeing other alphas, and since she knew who they were, I guessed that she had told Anil. But, perhaps she had not. I suppose it wouldn’t have been relevant to her to mention who they were, and I doubted she knew Anil’s connection to Ty.

Ty took a few protective steps closer to me. “I’m trying to convince this beautiful woman to be our omega.”

Anil tilted his head back, glancing between us. “I see. I didn’t realize you were my competition.”

I sighed. Anil really couldn’t take the hint that I had no interest in him. “There’s no competition.”

He cocked a brow. “Have you made your decision? Should I be saying congratulations?”

“Not yet. But you and I aren’t compatible.”
