“Come on, Zack is waiting for us, and I’ve missed you.” She giggles, and boy have I missed her
Chapter 60
Anu-Ms K
It’s Cole A’s release day and I’m popping with excitement. Never mind that I’m a little nervous. Daniel can’t make it because of work, but he somehow convinced Andrea to film the entire event live for him to watch. Which she has been doing all evening. I have managed to stay out of her way because she has turned out to be a woman on a mission. The fans have been happy with the album so far and the party seems to be going great.
I join the producers and all of Jordan’s friends on stage and hide behind the crowd when he thanks everyone that worked on the album. Just as Daniel convinced Andrea to live stream for him, Jordan convinced me last night to be the closing act. I play drums and he sings, just straight-out improv, but we are usually in sync with each other.
We’ve done this once or twice before, but we didn’t have an audience, and we were just having fun.
Jordan is convinced it will be the best closing act, just a good ole improv moment.
“Everyone having fun?” Jordan asks the crowd and an uproar ofyeah!is the response from the crowd. “That’s good, because I’m about to bring out a very special woman, and we are going to perform together. But before I bring her out here…” The crowd cheers. “That’s good, but before I bring her out, I’m going to need you guys to just enjoy this and not post this on your social media. I know you all love to post everything, but you are not allowed to post this. Remember all that stuff you signed coming in here; it means I can sue your ass if you post this. And if you must know, MAK’s man is lawyer.” The crowd cheers. “So, I’m going to bring my friend MAK back on stage and we are going to perform for you guys. And I should warn you, she’s taken, and her man is kind of bat shit obsessed.” The crowd laughs. “He even told me I can’t call her my girl.” Everyone laughs. “I’m serious. He’s quiet butbeware the fury.” He stresses and winks. Everyone laughs.
Me: Please tell me you didn’t tell Jordan not to call me his girl
Unc Dan: Damn right I did, Andy is his girl, and you are my girl
Me: Seriously, Daniel
Unc Dan: Yes, seriously, now go and perform. Can’t wait to watch my girl
Me: You and I will discuss this later
Unc Dan: gladly, now go
I put the phone away just as Jordan says “Without further ado, MAK get over here.”
I step on stage, nervous, shaking in my shoes, but I hold it together. I can do this. I love drumming, and I should just keep my focus on the drums and nothing else.
“Just imagine I’m in the crowd watching,” Daniel had said to me when I told him how nervous I was about being on stage. I mantra that and take each step as the crowd cheers, till I get to the drum and sit.
“Ready, MAK?” Jordan says and I nod. “Let’s do this.” He signals to me.
I start drumming and the crowd goes silent at first, then they start to move to the beat. Jordan sings in between the beat as I drum. I drum faster and harder and he matches the tempo. When he finishes, the crowd erupts in cheers. I exhaled the breath I was holding it. I didn’t mess up, I fanned my hands and smiled.
“What do you all think?” The cheer is louder. “Told you MAK is amazing.” The crowd gets louder, cheering. I smile and gently wave to the crowd. “Alright, one last one for the night. Don’t forget to start streaming the new songs and, for the love of all things good, my men: don’t look MAK up and start stalking her.”
Everyone laughs at the sassy tone. He turns to me, mouthing “ready?” I nod.
I start drumming and let loose with the feel of the beats vibrating through my blood. Jordan starts to hum to the beat. I hear him, and I glide the beats into his hum and sync with him as he raps in a slow melody. Like a perfect symphony, we round up the beat and hum in harmony.
The crowd erupts, chanting “MAK! MAK! MAK!” I get up and walk to Jordan, and we wave to the crowd.
“Thank you all for coming, and keep on streaming.” We both walk off the stage and join Jordan’s team and managers, that are happily cheering.
Andrea comes to hug me. “You guys were amazing, MAK!” she yells, almost damaging my ear drums. I pull from the hug and see Daniel on the phone smiling.
“Hey, you. Didn’t know you are still here.”
“Of course. Couldn’t miss it, Princess.”
“Technically, you missed it by not being here. Thank goodness for technology.”
“I’m sorry, Princess.”
“Are you back tonight?”
