Victoria leans in. “I didn’t see that one.” Wait… that one?

“There’s another one?” I ask, sitting up a little. The doctor gently presses my shoulder.

“Just relax.”

Then she looks at me, beaming. “You’re having twins.”

Nickoi jumps up from his chair, eyes wide.

“Twins?!” I echo, tears falling all over again.

“Yes,” she laughs. “It seems one baby was hiding during your last scan. That’s why your bump’s measuring big. It’s rare, but it happens.”

“Is it two girls?” Nickoi asks, breathless.

“Let me check,” she says. I grab his hand tightly as she scans again.

“The boy must’ve been hiding,” Victoria says. “I didn’t see him.”

Doctor Jacobs smiles wide.

“It’s a mixed gender twin, you’re having a boy and a girl.”

“Oh my God!” I scream, bursting into tears again. “A boy and a girl?!”

“How you feel now?” Doctor Jacobs asks Nickoi. Nickoi grins so wide it melts my heart.

“Words can’t explain,” he says.

The doctor looks at me. “How do you feel?”

“Blessed,” I say, wiping my face.

“Awww,” they both say in unison.

“I didn’t even know babies could hide behind each other like that,” I murmur in awe.

“It’s rare, but it happens,” Doctor Jacobs says. “The last time I saw this was five years ago.”

Nickoi turns to me, smirking. “The little G already give trouble.”

I’m glowing today and it’s not just the pregnancy kind. No, this is goddess level, I could be on the cover of a magazine type of glow. We’re in June now, and I’m officially eight months pregnant with twins. I’m sitting inside the studio, dressed in the most gorgeous white tulle gown I’ve ever seen. The fabric is soft and dreamy, wrapped delicately around my bump, cascading down my legs like layers of cotton candy. The sleeves are off-shoulder and ruffled, giving everything a soft, ethereal feel against my skin. It’s the kind of dress you wear when you know you’re about to enter your queen era. Everything just feels perfect.

“Zara, a this Nickoi take up fi yuh son enuh and a 19,000 fi it,” my mother says, laughing as she shows me a blue Polo bodysuit from a FaceTime call. She’s at the Polo store with Nickoi, and that alone is enough to boost my mood.

“Yes!” I grin. “That’s so him.”

She chuckles, placing the blue one on the counter and holding up a white bodysuit with soft pink detailing around the arms and neck. I just smile. My babies. A boy and a girl. Mixed gender twins. I still can’t believe it. “38,000 now enuh, mi dear,” she mutters in shock, looking at the price tags.

“Mommy, that’s nothing to Nickoi,” I tell her, fanning myself with my hand. “A just your first time reacting, mi did feel the same way when we went shopping.”

She leans closer to the screen, whispering, “Him have money man.”

I just laugh and nod. “Mi know.”
