“I don’t want to lead him on! He’s my friend!” Jacob said. “I don’t want
to make that weird.
“I think you already have.” Teddy began. “And you’ve already got a
boyfriend.”
“No! I have…I don’t…I’ve got a Joe. I don’t know what ‘a Joe’ is yet.”
Jacob put his head between his knees. “What have I done?”
“Rhetorical question I’m sure.” Teddy responded.
“I don’t know. What am I doing?” Jacob asked.
“Well, whatever it is, it’s sure feeling like a grand adventure right
now.”
“Teddy I-” Jacob began but was interrupted by Joe calling out of the
bedroom.
“Jacob? Are you-?”
“Hey, I’m here!” Jacob bolted to the bedroom to see Joe slowly waking
up on the bed.
“What happened? I just…I feel so strange.” Joe said, pressing his hand
to his forehead. He was swaying gently back and forth.
“I’m sorry. Must’ve been some bad coke.”
“What?!” Joe exclaimed.
“Diet coke. Not…You know.” Jacob chuckled. “No way I could afford
that.”
“Oh. Good.” Joe whispered as he relaxed himself back against the
headboard. “What happened? I remember feeling so…conflicted?” “You passed out. On the walk back you just kind of stopped and
collapsed onto me. And then you barfed on my bird. And then you kinda
passed out a bit.”
“Oh wow…” Joe looked startled. “I can’t believe I did that. That’s…so
weird. I don’t remember being sick, I just- Everything just stopped.” “I’m sorry. It was probably me. I was asking too many questions and
you didn’t want to tell me and I guess it was too much.” Jacob stated, but
then Joe burst out laughing. “What?”
“Wow, you think of yourself way too highly in this situation.” Joe
