He tilted his chin down. “I’m half shifter. I didn’t think it would happen to me. When it did, it blew my mind more than attempting to fly as a dragon through a hurricane.”

“Same here,” Sebastian added. “Except for the flying.”

They knew how this felt. If anyone could help me understand this chaos, it was them.

I slowly brought my mouth to say the words that confused me; the ones that the bear shifters believed with all their heart and soul, but I couldn’t comprehend. I heaved out a giant exhale and admitted. “My bear thinks Pandora is the one. Our mate.”

Lucas winced. “Pandora?”

“Ooh, I know how that feels, man.” He leaned back on the sofa and put his hand on his chest.

I swallowed. “What should I do about this? I’m so confused. Actually, terrified.”

“Don’t be afraid, it’s a good thing,” Sebastian said.

“It feels like it’s messing with my head,” I said. “Even my dreams are super weird and vivid.”

“Like what?” Lucas drew his brows closer.

“Like I’m in a movie. One night, I dreamed I was a bear juggling in a circus. That’s not completely outrageous considering I’m half-bear. Another time, I thought I was a cat having kittens. Last night might be the weirdest though. I dreamed I was different shapes.”

Lucas tipped his chin down. “Come again?”

“I know it sounds weird. One of them was an octagon.”

Sebastian narrowed his eyes. They were both looking at me as if I’d lost my mind.

Lucas’s eyes widened. “Could you move?”

“No.”

“That’s weird. You must have been freaked out.”

I shrugged. “No, it felt normal.”

“Normal to be an octagon and be unable to move?” He slapped his thigh. “You’ve got it bad, man.”

I leaned back on the sofa and groaned. “I know.”

A gray cat sauntered down the stairs. “Hey Shadow,” Lucas said. He turned to me. “That’s my little buddy.”

When the cat rubbed against my leg, I bent down and petted him. I sat up and asked, “Neither of you had weird dreams like that?”

They both denied it.

“Oh.” My shoulders sagged. “I thought it might be a weird shifter thing. It didn’t happen until I met Pandora.”

“Could be,” Sebastian agreed with a thoughtful nod. “Finding your mate is a life-changing experience—especially if you’re having trouble accepting it. Don’t fight it,” he added. “I did at first, but that was wrong. Now that I’m with my mate, I’ve never been happier.”

I wish I had that sense of content. “Should I tell Pandora?”

They exchanged a meaningful glance.

“What’s with that look?” I asked.

“You need to time it right,” Sebastian said. “I freaked Gianna out.”

“But if you keep it from her, she’ll be pissed.”
