A pink tinge spreads over Pen’s cheeks, and her eyes darken.

I watch her bite her lip again, moving it with my thumb.

“Is that what you want? You said you didn’t want to get into a relationship, that your time was concentrating on Lottie.”

I’m surprised at how unsure her voice sounds. Pen is usually so confident.

“After last night and this morning. Do you really need to ask me that? Christ, Pen. I’ve just had the best sex of my life, and you’re asking me if I want more? If I had my choice, you would not be going into the office. You’d be staying here with me for the indefinite future. As for Lottie, my daughter will always come first. She has to. But I selfishly can’t walk away from you.”

She stares at me wide-eyed for a moment.

“Best sex, huh?” she says, her cheeks darkening under my gaze.

“By far.” I capture her face in my hands. “Being with you has blown my mind, as I always knew it would,” I tell her truthfully.

Not that I’ve had much sex over the past few years. Darra and I haven’t slept together since I found out Lottie wasn’t mine. I’ve had a couple of sexual partners, but affairs are complicated. I didn’t need anyone getting attached. I had Lottie to think about. Meeting someone else would have meant losing her, as divorcing Darra would have meant exactly that. It would not have been fair to anyone.

“Me too,” she says with a shy smile.

I’m surprised when she holds my gaze, highlighting the truth of her words.

“So, does this mean I can take you out to dinner?”

A smile spreads over her face.

“I’d love that,” she says.

“Good. I’ll pick you up after work.” Pen scoots off the bed. “Oh, and Pen, bring an overnight bag.”

CHAPTER 42

PEN

Ienter the office with a spring in my step. Multiple orgasms will do that to a girl, or so I’ve just found out. I don’t think my libido has ever been as high. The moment we touched, it was as if Elijah unlocked something inside me, and my body has yet to recover. I’m pulsing with desire. If Elijah was to walk in now, I’d climb him like a tree and ride him until we’re both puddles of goo on the floor.

I smile widely.

I’ve read articles on mind-blowing sex, but having never experienced it, thought it was one of those things that sells magazines.

With Elijah, it was like we couldn’t get enough of each other. I wanted to try every position I’ve ever thought about. My body came alive with the simplest of touches. It was like craving chocolate when you know you shouldn’t. I wanted to plaster my body against his toned muscles, feel my skin against his. The thought alone leaves me hot and wet.

Lust took over last night. I was desperate for his body, mind, and soul.

“Wow, you’re glowing,” Danika says, her eyes wide as I enter my office.

Danika has been with Dawson Tech since its conception.

“It’s a great morning,” I say, shooting her a bright smile.

“Clearly,” she chuckles. “It’s good to have you back. I wasn’t sure when to expect you.”

“I thought I should show my ugly mug,” I say, throwing my bag onto the sofa in the corner of the room, before making my way to my desk.

Danika was one of the few people who knew I was back, and that my engagement to Kris had ended. We’ve been in constant contact over the phone. I warned her the press would call as soon as the story broke, but I trusted her to handle it. The rest of my staff are loyal and have shut down any gossip.

“How’s the prototype going?”

I grin.
