A sleigh ride from Pemberley to Thornhill on Christmas Eve goes dangerously off track. Deep drifts, swirling winds, and freezing temperatures threaten to turn a brisk five-mile trip to the warmth of the Bingley sitting room into a struggle for survival. Or so it seemed until sanctuary was found beneath the snowy roof of The Gamekeeper’s Cabin.
Inspired by O. Henry’s classic The Gift of the Magi, the short story sees Christmas from two points of view—that of the lessers, Charlie and Sally Tomkins, and the betters, Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Together they learn that the Natal Day’s meaning cannot be found in a rich man’s leavings sent to the servants, but rather in a poor man’s crust left in a beggar’s bowl.
