He wasn’t. Not in the least. “Not yet.”
He chuckled and shook his head. “It’s good to know that I can still mess this up.”
“I am surprised that you wanted to have dinner with me. I don’t tend to date my patients.” Like, ever. This was a first for me.
“Well, I guess I should feel lucky since you didn’t say no,” he marveled.
“You’re into dorky doctors you can’t see?” I mused.
Easy shook his head. “Only been blind for less than a week, Doc. I saw you way before you caught me in the hallway.”
I rolled my eyes. “Sure, Easy.”
“I’m serious, Birdie, I saw you before this. I didn’t make my move before because there was a lot of shit going down that I didn’t want you to get involved.” He sighed heavily. “People were being murdered just because they were connected to the club.”
“And now?” I asked.
“And now all of that is put to bed and done with,” he explained.
“So you decided to shoot your shot?” Why did I always sound lame when I tried to be hip? Trying to be hip might be where my lameness started.
“Well, I had to get my ass in gear before you called Snapper.”
I tipped my head to the side. “Why would I call Snapper?” Where did that come from?
“Because you asked me for his phone number before, doll.”
Oh, Jesus. “I did ask you for Snapper’s number, but it wasn’t for me. One of the nurses wants it.”
“No shit?”
I nodded and relaxed back into my chair. “No joking. He asked Layla for her phone number but hadn’t texted or called her, so Layla decided to take matters into her own hands.”
“Damn,” Easy laughed. “I thought for sure you had something going on for Snapper.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Uh, no. Cute guy, but he seems way too young for me.”
“Doc,” he drawled. “I’m only a couple of years older than him.”
I shrugged. “I guess he’s just not my type.” Snapper was leaner than Easy, and he just seemed much younger.
“And I am?”
Yes, he most certainly was. Even after sitting in a hospital for days, Easy was, without a doubt, the best-looking guy I had ever seen. He was tall and muscular and just gave off the vibe that he was safe. I didn’t know how else to describe it other than he made me feel safe. “Uh, yes, but I feel you would be anyone's type.” Didn’t everyone want to feel safe?
“Tell me about Easy,” I sighed. “What is something I should know about you that I don’t?” Not that I knew much at all.
He quirked his eyebrow and cringed. “You want something funny, or are we being serious here?”
I shrugged. “Surprise me.” Whatever he had to tell me, I would listen to every word.
“I was born and raised in Rockton. The MC has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.”
“Basic information, but I’m not surprised the MC is in your blood,” I whispered.
“Completely,” he agreed. “I don’t know what I would do without it.”
I kind of knew what he felt. I was a doctor, but it was also a big part of who I was. Helping people was something that I had to do. “I don’t think you will ever have to worry about losing the MC.”
