“We all…d-do. You. Me. G-Goen.” His eyes focused on Juda. “Her.”
“Wait! Are you saying all Nomads have an ability?” Shiner pressed.
“What is your ability?” Juda questioned.
“S-…sideways. I can s-send…you s-sideways. Like I…sent Goen.”
“Sideways?” Conroy repeated.
“Sideways. Another…another place. Same…time.”
“Oh, no!” Juda glanced over at her husband. “Goen is outside somewhere? But still in this timeline?”
Narrowing his eyes, Cayn turned back to the man on the floor as Hillie finished wrapping his wounds. “What can Goen do? What is his ability?”
“He stops…time.”
“He can stop it? For how long?”
“Not long. Long enough.” The man’s eyes returned to Juda. “He will f-find you.”
She gave him a confused look. “Find me?”
“He-he wants you.”
“Why? Why does he want me? I thought he wanted Cayn.”
“Or does he want her dead?” Cayn interpreted.
Haram raised a bloody finger and pointed at Juda. “She…sends us…forward.”
“Forward?” Conroy glanced at Juda, then back at the man. “Are you telling us she can send people forward in time?”
“Yesss.” The man closed his eyes. His hand dropped to his abdomen.
Dr. Hillie leaned forward to check the man’s pulse, placing his fingers against Haram’s neck. A look of alarm came over his face. “I think he’s bled out.”
Cayn slowly rose to his feet. Glancing up at him, she noticed his attention was focused on her.
“Miss Plesh, did you know you had the ability to send people forward in time?” Deputy Shiner asked.
“No.”
“Did you ever try to see if you had an ability?” Conroy questioned her.
“Yes. Once. Nothing happened,” she admitted.
“How old were you?” Cayn asked.
“How old was I? I… It was so long ago. I do not recall exactly. I was still a child.”
“You’re saying you hadn’t hit puberty yet?” Hillie queried. When she shook her head, the doctor nodded and looked at Cayn. “Tell me, son. When did you first realize you could send others like yourself back in time?”
“When?”
“Yeah. Had you reached puberty? You know, when your voice dropped, and you started to grow hair on your balls?”
Cayn grinned. “Yes. It was after that began happening.”
