Drawing his face down to hers, they kissed. At the same time, he kneed apart her legs, and she planted her feet flat on the mattress. Her body was ready for him. Ready to love him in that tight, soul-blending way they hadn’t shared in a long, long time.

“Juda.” His breath tickled her hair as he loomed up and over her. She heard the rapid beating of his heart as he reached down to place himself at her entrance. And when he finally began sliding inside her a little at a time, she threw back her head and closed her eyes to savor the sensations rippling over her muscles and under her skin.

They tried to take it easy and not rush it. After so long, they wanted to make this joining last as long as they could. But after a half-dozen strokes, they knew it was not meant to be. Their bodies hungered for each other. They hungered for each other and the thrill of release. Cayn began pounding into her, pushing as deeply within her as he could as she widened her thighs to give him room. The bed seesawed back and forth with their motions. The headboard banged rhythmically against the wall in accompaniment. The sound of their grunting and moaning filled the room—love noises that punctuated their actions.

It was Cayn who found release first, but she peaked right behind him. And still he continued to ground himself into her tight channel as it closed around his thickness, hugging his erection, nearly strangling it as her climax continued. When he could move no longer, he caged himself on top of her, using his arms and legs to prevent himself from suffocating her.

Juda felt drops of sweat landing on her own moistened skin. Neither of them moved as their aftermath flowed over and around them like rich honey. After some time, Cayn rolled onto his side, pulling her with him until she lay within his embrace.

Outside, a bird twittered. It was immediately answered with a similar cry. A jay and his mate, together as they were meant to be. Like her and Cayn. Smiling, Juda allowed herself to be lulled to sleep to the sound and the feel of her husband’s slowing heartbeat against her forehead.

It was daylight when he emerged. As he usually did whenever he landed in a new and unknown time, he dove for the nearest cover in order to give himself a chance to assess his surroundings. In this instance, it was a hedge bordering what appeared to be a house.

Keeping low, Haram waited for his breathing and heart rate to settle. Once that was accomplished, he peered up into the sky. The day was warm, which was good. It was also nearly midday, which was not good. He preferred landing when it was dark. When nobody could see him, and he could go about doing what he needed to do with impunity. But he’d learned long ago to deal with the hand he was given.

In the distance, he noticed something advancing toward him. It was large and metallic looking, and made an odd, growling sound which grew louder as it neared where he was hiding. He dug his fingers into the dirt and prepared himself to run when he realized the thing was keeping to the paved road. Pretty soon it emerged, nearly deafening him with its cry like that of a hungry beast, and roared past him. It was one of those vehicle things like he’d seen in the past. Only this one was smoother in appearance and not as blocky as the others.

Centering himself, he closed his eyes. With that initial interruption gone, he could concentrate on finding the others.

Yes, they all were here, together in this timeline. Three Nomads, their entities glowing like beacons. Two of them were within close proximity of each other. He could tell Cayn’s apart from Juda’s, if it was them. He had no doubt it was, but they weren’t the main reason why he was here. Not yet.

Turning around, he homed in on the one person he’d been tracking. There. A single entity. He’d found Goen, alone and away from the other two. Haram smiled. There was no mistaking it was him.

Getting to his feet, he began walking in the direction where he’d find his master and benefactor.

Memories

Cayn awoke, disoriented yet prepared to bolt if necessary, but that wasn’t unusual. After jumping through eons, it always took him a while to remember where and when he was. And if he couldn’t recall after a few minutes, a quick glance around at his surroundings or outside was enough to refresh his memory. This morning, however, the feel of Juda’s soft body was all he needed to calm his racing heart.

A tiny slit in the curtains revealed it was still light outside, but he had no way of knowing what the actual time was. Not without crawling out from under the warm covers and going over to the bedside table on the other side to see what the clock read. For now he’d remain where he was and watch this sleeping woman who was more precious than life to him.

He debated whether or not to awaken her so they could share each other’s bodies once more. It was something they never tired of, making love. Exploring, tasting, and testing to see how far and how long they could bring each other. But that wasn’t the only reason why he loved her.

“What time is it?” a voice barely whispered.

He snorted softly. Why did he believe he could observe her without her knowledge? “I do not know. The clock is on your side.” He expected her to roll over and check. Instead, she snuggled closer to him.

“Are you hungry?”

“Yes.”

It was a useless question. She was always hungry.

“I meant for food,” he teased.

“That as well. I hope Mr. Hampstead does not fire me for not going to work today.”

“I am certain Sheriff Conroy explained to him the reason for your absence. Does he know about you?”

He detected a slight shake of her tousled head. “No.”

“Bet he does by now.”

She giggled in response. “Cayn, do you remember the last time we made love?”

“Umm, other than recently?”

Sliding a hand under her head, she propped herself up on one elbow. “It was the night before you left to go find food, and Goen caught up with us.”
