“I didn’t know. I just thought you were trying to find Alison. Have you shown your dad this?”

“No.”

“He needs to see, but we can do it later. What do you say to one last jet ski ride? It’s supposed to be in the 90s today. Ty is taking his family’s boat out. June will be there.”

“Is Alison going to be there?” Hannah asks, biting her lip. She’s examining her fingernails instead of looking at me.

I run my fingers along her chin and jaw and tilt her head until she makes eye contact with me. “I don’t think so, but I don’t know. How about this? You change into that cute black and white polka dot swimsuit with the yellow top, and I’ll show your dad the text messages. I’ll meet you downstairs in the living room.”

“That’s specific,” she says with a smile.

I lean in, skimming my lips along her neck up to her ear. “It’s my second favorite swimsuit on you. My favorite is your little black bikini, but if you wear it, I’ll be sporting a major hardon the rest of the day.” Hannah gasps, smacking my shoulder. Her mouth has softened and parted. I lean in, kissing her, flicking my tongue in her mouth.

She wraps her arms around my neck and pulls me down to her. I fling my arms out on either side of her head. I glance back at her open door. “You’re walking a fine line.”

“I enjoy living dangerously,” she says, smiling.

I brush my thumb across her bottom lip. “I love this smile.”

“Just my smile?”

“So much more than just your beautiful smile.” I breathe over her lips, kissing her again.

There’s a cough behind us, and then Jack says, “knock, knock.”

29. Who’s Made it to Third Base?

“I’ll meet you downstairs.” Ford gives me one more kiss, then stands up. He pats Jack on the shoulder as he leaves.

“Hey,” Jack says, rubbing the back of his neck. He glances around my room. “I never realized how big this room is.”

“Uh—yeah, it’s nice. I guess being the only girl has its perks.” I shrug. Both of us are feeling uncomfortable. I hate it. Things between us are good, and I don’t want that to change.

“About that picture—”

“It’s okay.”

“No, it’s not okay. It just kind of happened. I was going to talk to you about it today.”

I stand up. “Jack, you deserve to be happy, and if Alison makes you happy, then you should date her.”

“I did like her, but then she changed and became a mean person. I don’t know what to think. She was acting all nice and sweet last night. But that’s just it. Was she being herself or putting on an act for my benefit? I felt a little lonely and left out now that Tyler has a girlfriend. I was going to tell you we kissed in case Alison or Bree said something to you.”

“Thank you. That means a lot that you considered my feelings.”

“Well, we are trying to be brother and sister. I guess that means we should try to care about each other.” Jack gives me a cocky smile.

“Do you want a gold star for your effort?” I tease.

“Yes, please.” Jack holds out his hand. I walk up to him with a raised eyebrow, and he cocks one in return.

I slap his hand, laughing.

“I knew you couldn’t spit in it.” Jack laughs.

“I contemplated it, but it’s so disgusting.”

“Are we good?”
