“Yes! I’m going to play for Utah.”

“Cam, that’s awesome congrats. You’re an amazing left tackle. You’ll do Utah proud.”

“Thanks, man. I’m super stoked. Have you talked to Jack are T.?”

“Not since I got here.” I glance around the room. Jack is talking to Dave and Beckett. Melissa is hanging all over Dave, but I don’t see Bree or Alison anywhere. June is at the far end of the room, giggling as Tyler whispers to her. I tug on Hannah’s hand, and she turns from talking to Leah and Aubrey and looks at me. I lean down, whispering, “June is here.”

Her head pops up, and she searches the room until she sees her. She gasps and takes a step back. I glance back at Ty and June, and they’re kissing. I groan inwardly. This could get bad fast. I tug on Hannah’s arm, taking her back upstairs. I walk toward the living room, but she turns, leading me up the stairs. She doesn’t slow down or tip-toe when we get close to her parent’s bedroom. It makes me nervous, but if she’s not going to worry about it, neither am I. But I leave her door partly open, just in case. She walks into her room, plopping down on her loveseat. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. I’m great. Never better.”

“You’re a terrible liar.” I sit down next to her.

She just shrugs.

“It might help if you talk about it.”

“I knew they liked each other the way they were always flirting and giving each other googly eyes. Why didn’t June feel like she could confide in me and tell me she liked Tyler? I would have squealed and fawned over him with her. I don’t understand.”

There’s a knock on the door, and Tyler peeks his head in. “Hey, can I come in?”

“Um—yeah.” Hannah lays her head on my shoulder, and I hold her hand, rubbing soft circles along the back of it.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to find out about me and June like that.”

I wish I knew what Hannah was thinking and how she was feeling. The last time this happened, she lost one of her best friends. She has the cheerleaders, and they love her, but June is her closest friend. I’d hate to see them fall out over this.

“Are you going to treat June like all the other girls you’ve dated?” Hannah asks.

Ty waves his hands in front of him. “Absolutely not. I like June more than any girl I’ve ever dated. I promise I won’t do that to her. She’s different.”

She’s different.I understand exactly how Tyler feels. It’s the same way I felt about Hannah before we got together. It’s the reason I made that bet with her.

Hannah sighs. “Thanks for telling me that, Tyler, but it’s not up to me who June likes and dates.”

There’s another knock at Hannah’s door, and June comes in. “Hi.” She looks worried. Her brow’s wrinkled, and she’s fidgeting with her hands. “Can I talk to Hannah for a minute—alone?”

I glance at Hannah, and she nods. “I’ll come and find you when we’re done.”

I push a few wispy curls off her face and kiss her. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” She whispers back, her voice hitching with emotion.

I follow Ty out of the room and shut the door. My feet feel like lead the further from Hannah I get. I know she and June need to talk, but I want to be there to comfort and support her.

“What do you think will happen?” Ty asks, raking a hand through his hair.

“They’ll work it out. It’s just that she saw you two kissing, and it was kind of reminiscent of the party in June. I probably overreacted because I didn’t want Hannah to react to the situation.”

“Dammit! That’s the last thing we wanted.”

“She doesn’t understand why you just didn’t tell her you liked each other. Come to think of it. I didn’t know either.”

“I’m sorry. June was afraid telling Clark might upset her because the two of you hadn’t figured your stuff out. But I finally told her she needed to talk to Clark. June said she tried one day at lunch this week but chickened out.”

I clap T. on the back. “They’ll figure it out. Let’s give them the time to talk.”

When we get back downstairs, there are even more people here. “Ford.” Ty nudges me. “Look who’s here.”
