“Ooh, this is a nice office.” There aretwo large windows that face the road below.

“Kate.” Cole stands behind me, skimminghis lips along my neck. His hands snake around my middle. “Tell me what you’rethinking.”

“I’m contemplating how much I love you.”I turn around in his arms, facing him. “What are you thinking?” I cock aneyebrow at him. I know that’s not the answer he wants, but I’m feeling brave. So I will see how this plays out.

“I’m thinking you need to tell me what’sgoing on in that head of yours.”

“They’re just random thoughts.”

“I want to know them.” I can’t help theeye roll. Cole gives my ass a squeeze.

“Don’t you have a meeting?” I try to turnaway, but he holds me firm to him.

“Kate, you need to tell me what’s goingon in that beautiful head of yours.”

“Why?” Why is it such a big damn deal forhim to know what I’m thinking?

Cole sighs, “I worry.” He kisses mycheek, then runs his nose along my jawline and down my neck. I shiver aspleasure shoots down to my belly, undoing my irritation at him.

“Well, Mr. Nosy pants, I’m grateful foryou that you’ve worked so hard to become successful, that you can provide sucha great life for me and our future children.”

“And?” Cole bites and sucks at my neck.

“I have a meeting.” But my voice is allbreathy, holding no conviction, my body heating with want.

“You better talk fast, then.” He smilesinto my neck.

“What else do you want to know?”

“I want to know why you stared at thatwoman.” Oh, five points to Cole for referring to her in generic form.

“That was nothing. I wasn’t jealous ofher. I mean I wasn’t lying when I said I wouldn’t mind legs like that. But Irealized how many different people you encounter through business. For somereason, I pictured you working with all men.” I push back so I’m looking atCole. “I believe you when you tell me you love me and only me. I haveinsecurities, but not when it comes to you and me.”

Cole relaxes his shoulders. “Good, because you are my once in a lifetime. I love you. I only have eyes for you.”

“Good. Are we good?”

He kisses my new hickey, releasing me.“Yes, we are good.”

Cole’s secretary calls, telling him bothour respective meetings are ready. I cover the red spot on my neck with alittle foundation, and then Cole shows me to the front conference room. Alan’sinside, signing his portion of the documents.

“Kate, my girl, you are right on time.”He bends down, kissing me on the cheek.

“Hi Alan.”

“How are you today, Grandpa?” Cole asks, patting his back.

“The same as yesterday, still alive andticking, and ornery and mean as hell.”

“So you’re good?” I smile.

“Yep, I’m great. Keeping my grandson incheck, I hope?”

I glance at Cole and touch a finger tothe freshly hidden hickey on my neck. Pretty sure he’s keeping me in check.

“Always.”

“Good.” Alan nods.
