I clinked my glass to hers. “Without a doubt, there will be. I don’t think I could let you go even if I wanted to, Sophia Harding.”
We sipped wine, ate the strawberries, and just soaked up this small moment in time, both of us cuddled together beneath the moon and stars.
She had no idea, but I knew in that moment I loved her and no one would ever replace this woman in my life. Someday soon I’d find the words to tell her so, but showing her was enough.
For now.
Sophia
To say I was blown away by my date with Darren so far was a complete understatement. Dinner had been amazing, but dessert had been divine. Sitting with him on the pier was more romantic than anything I’d ever done in my life. It left me breathless and filled with too many emotions to keep track of. Awe. Gratitude. Joy. Comfort. And the most pronounced feeling of all—desire.
When he suddenly pulled out his phone and began playing a slow, sensual song, then stood and offered his hand to me, I knew I was done for.
“What song is this?” I asked, letting him pull me to my feet and position me in his arms as he began to slow dance with me.
“It’s called “The Wreck of Our Hearts”by Sleeping Wolf. Thought it was appropriate,” he responded in that low, deep tone of his.
A shiver ran up my spine, so I tried to hide it by hugging my body to his, resting my cheek on his large chest as we swayed to the music. His heart beat furiously in his chest, mimicking mine.
How my life could turn from so traumatic and terrifying to so calm and filled with adoration, I didn’t know. I just knew that being here with Darren was the safest I’d ever felt. Suddenly the world didn’t seem so full of darkness like it had just a few short months ago. He gave me hope for more. Hope that I’d found someone who could love me…like I was slowly starting to love him.
I wasn’t sure how long we danced since several songs came and went, before a loud rumbling above us broke the moment. We’d been so consumed in each other we hadn’t noticed the clouds rolling in and blocking out the moon. Another rumble of thunder sounded just before rain suddenly began pouring.
“Shit! Guess I should’ve checked the weather before we did this,” Darren exclaimed, quickly gathering up the unfinished wine and strawberries, then grabbed my hand and ran with me back to the car. We were both soaked to the bone as we slid into the car, out of breath and laughing at the circumstances.
“Not exactly what I had planned for tonight,” Darren chuckled as he reached behind his seat. “Should have something to dry off with around here somewhere.”
My eyes zeroed in on his tattooed chest that was much more visible beneath his wet shirt that stuck to his very defined torso. I felt my mouth go dry. My center throbbed with need the longer I stared.
“Fuck. Nothing,” Darren sighed, coming up empty handed in his search. He glanced at me and must’ve seen the lust within my gaze because he stilled, his own gaze falling to my lips.
My need for him grew more scorching and crazed with every passing second. A little part of me, the wild part that apparently had been locked away my entire life, reared its head, needing to feel his body against mine. I couldn’t take this beautiful torture any longer.
Without another moment of hesitation, I made my move, the little devil on my shoulder egging me on. Swinging my leg over, I quickly found myself in his lap, straddling him. My drenched tresses fell over my face a little, dripping onto him.
Before he could say I word, I sealed my lips against him, digging my fingers into his equally damp hair. He made a sharp sound of surprise, but made no move to remove me from his lap. But when we both pulled away for air, he palmed either side of my face to stop me from kissing him again.
“What are you doing, Sophia?” he asked in a strained tone, but he knew exactly what I was doing. Knowing Darren, however, he wanted to make sure I was of sound mind in what it was I was thinking.
“I think you know, Darren. I want you. Now.”
“In the car? Out in the open?”
I ground my pelvis into his, already feeling a hard bulge beneath his slacks. “You have tinted windows, and it’s pouring rain with nobody out here right now but us. So yes, here in the car.”
Darren laughed. “You do know we could get arrested for public indecency if we’re caught, right?”
I shrugged, feeling my confidence rising and my desire to do what I wanted with him purring to be allowed free. “You have friends on the force to help you with that if it happens. I need you, Darren. Please?” I ground myself against him once more, eliciting a moan from him.
“You’re killing me, Soph.”
“Then let me bring you back to life,” I responded cheekily. I grabbed the edges of his shirt and with a hard tug, unsnapped all the pearl buttons and revealed his delicious chest to me.
Not needing anymore prodding from me, Darren grabbed me and yanked me tighter into him, slamming his lips into mine. His fingers dug into my ass cheeks and my lower back as our mouths warred with each other. I knew my lips would bruise from the brutality of his kiss, but I didn’t care. His tongue danced with mine and our teeth clacked together. We were in such a frenzy to taste each other, to not stop what had been a long time coming.
He shrugged off his shirt and grabbed the hem of mine, separating our mouths long enough to rip it up and over my shoulders. His fingers expertly unclasped my bra as he dragged his mouth away from mine to place a trail of sensual kisses and bites along my neck to my shoulder. My nipples pebbled beneath his palms, which now massaged my breasts in fervor. I leaned back when his mouth moved further down my body until it came to one of my nipples. His teeth clamped down, pulling a deep moan from me.
“Oh fuck!” I cried out, my clit throbbing even more with rising need.
