Every thrust was a promise, one I knew I’d never let him keep.
My orgasm was building, and I let go, feeling every sensation I’d fought for so long, every sensation I’d thought I’d never know again.
He rode my body, and I gave him everything I’d held back for far too long. Luke started to fuck me slower, deeper, harder like he was trying to engrave this into my memory. He didn’t know I would remember every-fucking-thing.
We move together like we were always meant to.
“Don’t stop.” I moaned. “Don’t.”
He pounded into me until I was crying and moaning.
“I love you,” he whispered as he unraveled inside me, and as much as I felt the words, I could not say them.
ChapterThirty-Two
Luke
Incessant pounding on the motel room door woke me up. Reaching for my sweatpants, I pulled them on and headed for the door, glancing around and not seeing Alyssa. She must be in the bathroom.
“Police. Open up,” a male voice shouted. What the fuck?
“Dr. Luke Greene?” the uniformed officer at the door asked when I opened it, holding up his badge.
“Yes,” I answered groggily. The nip in the air caused goose bumps to spread across my skin.
“We received this.” He held up a cell phone and a letter. I squinted my eyes in confusion. “Can I come in?”
“I’d rather talk outside,” I said, stepping out and closing the motel room door behind me.
“A woman dropped this off at the station around five this morning. The cell phone has a confession on it. She admitted to blackmailing you into aiding her out of Fort Hill, admitted she held you hostage in your office, with a letter opener to your back then, got you to sneak her out and drop her here. The note told us where to find you. According to Ms. Morgan you did nothing wrong, that she masterminded the whole breakout plan threatening to report you for unethical conduct if you didn’t play along.”
My heart fucking sank. I couldn’t hear more, and I turned, opening the door. “Alyssa!” I shouted, racing to the bathroom. It was empty.
I looked around the room, and everything of hers was gone.
She’d left.
And had implicated herself to save me.
Goddammit! She was planning on going out on her own and had no fucking clue what I felt for her. But I’d play along because I needed to be free to find her.
I sat on the edge of the bed where I’d made love to her over and over again until we were spent. Little did I know, she’d planned to leave me.
“Is that what happened, sir?” The officer stood at the door observing me.
“It is,” I told the officer.
“You’ll just need to come down to the station and make a statement, and you’re free to go back home, doctor.”
Audrey standing in my kitchen was the absolute last thing I’d expected walking into my house two days later, after taking a flight and catching a shuttle, since Alyssa left me carless.
“Uh… is there something I can do for you?” I rubbed my chin.
“Babe, I have been so worried about you. I heard about what happened and just had to come see if you’re okay.” She ran over to me, wrapping her arms around my neck.
I had to pry myself free.
“I’m fine, Audrey. You shouldn’t have bothered, though.” I raised an eyebrow, walking to the refrigerator.
