“I’m good,” I offer him a smile.
I want to be here when she wakes up.
“She spoke a lot about you. I could tell she really liked you.”
“I was a pretty huge asshole to her before – all this.”
“Don’t be so hard on yourself, man. Everybody makes mistakes. It’s pretty much what makes us human.” he shrugs.
Eliana stirs, and I stand, wanting to get closer. When those hazel eyes open, I swear I fall to my knees in relief. Zev steps out of the room after nodding to me.
“Brax,” she croaks, a small smile on her face.
“Hey, beautiful.” Her eyes shift around the room.
“You’re really here?”
“I am. Zev and your mother are outside too.” I smile down at her.
“I think I love you,” she mutters sleepily.
“I think I love you too.” She closes her eyes, and her breathing steadies. She’s fallen asleep. I sit back down and hold her hand. “I’ll be here when you wake up.”
