Braxton
One taste was not good enough. I want to devour her every time I have her to myself, and that’s exactly what I do. She’s addictive, my own drug. The sex is explosive. If I’m not fucking her, I’m thinking about it. She’s wildfire, burning beneath me with a single touch.
She’s been in meetings all day, so I use the opportunity to meet up with Jackson. I pull up at the modern building, parking close to the entrance. He’s already waiting for me in the reception area.
“Brax, welcome to Cole security,” he proclaims, motioning around him.
“This is something,” I reply, genuinely impressed. I knew that he’d started this security company years ago, and the fact that he’d expanded across the country was admirable.
He takes me around the facility, and I chat with a few of the guys he stops to introduce me to. Many of the ex-Navy or Army.
“I’m going to cut to the chase.” Jackson leans his elbows on his desk. “I’d like you to think about heading up this place. My team lead has moved to another branch to be closer to his girl. She’s pregnant, and I need a more senior guy for the role.” He leans back in his chair.
“I don’t know, man, I’ve been on my own for so long.”
“I heard you even bought a cabin in the woods?” He cocks a brow.
“Did your homework?” I chuckle.
“Only because I’m hoping you’ll help a brother out. Take the job.”
“How about I give it some thought?” I can’t understand why the first thing I think about is Eliana and the fact that I’ll be close to her if I work here. The thought makes me clam up.
“You okay?” He narrows his eyes at me.
“Yeah, great. But, I should go, though, gotta get back to babysitting,” I explain, feeling a tinge of guilt.
“Sure thing. But just know I could use a man with your experience in the field, working for me.”
We shake hands and he walks me out to my car.
I sit in my car for a while looking at the building in front of me. This was a great opportunity but taking a permanent job like this felt like I was putting down roots and I am not sure that I’m ready for that.
This thing with Eliana is fucking with me. I am not in it for the long haul, and I’d better make sure I don’t give her that impression.
My phone rings and I let out a groan before answering.
“How are things going with my daughter?” I would smirk at the choice of words but Diego Hernandez’s voice is enough to bring anyone back to reality.
“She’s fine.” I say.
“I’m surprised she’s not stepping out of line. You must have some persuasive means.” You could say that.
“She probably realizes there’s no point.” I say pointedly.
“I have a lot riding on her safety, Mr. Hayes.” Something about that sounds like a warning.
“She is safe.” I say. “I’ll call you if there is anything new.”
I cut the call. I hate how wrong it feels to give updates to her father. I know I have to but it feels like a betrayal.
