“I’m a doctor.” he speaks to the lady in Turkish. “I called for an ambulance, but I will see what I can do.”

“Follow me.” Fear engulfs me as I make my way closer to the building. I lead the doctor down to the basement and toward the room Deniz had led me to. I have no idea what I’m going to find, but the last thing I expect is both Ravi and Deniz also laying shot on the floor.

Mom shakes her head as we approach. I kneel at Ravi’s side as Mom calls the doctor over to Sai.

“Thank you,” A tear slips down my face.

“Anything for the prettiest girl in the world.” he struggles.

“I am so sorry, Ravi, so sorry.”

“He – loves – you, take care of him.” he manages, and my chest tightens. I can’t stop the tears from flowing down my face.

I kiss his cheek. His father shot him in the chest. I bow my head when a small amount of blood slips from his mouth. I look over to where Deniz lies motionless. Ravi managed to get him in the head. I can’t bear to look at him.

I crawl over to Sai. “Looks like the shooter missed his vital organs, but we need to get him to a hospital as soon as possible.” The doctor tells us. I nod, looking down at him.

“Where am I?” Amy yawns. I rush over to her and throw my arms around her.

“Oh, God, Amy. I am so glad that you’re okay. It’s a long story, but I need you to let this doctor check you out.” She looks over at the doctor then nods.

Paramedics come in, and they carry Sai off. I want so badly to go with him, but my heart is torn. Amy is cleared to go home by the medical staff.

“Go with him.” Mom tells me. “I’ll need to sort out all of this. I’ll take Amy home and see you back there.”

“Sai’s yacht, Siren, it’s parked at the docks. The Captain will take you all to Isle Salina.”

She nods, and I follow behind Sai and the paramedics into the ambulance. Sai is hooked up to a drip, and the paramedics tell me that he’s stable. He’ll have to have surgery to get whatever is left of the bullet out, but he should be fine.

I hold his big hands in mine and place a kiss on it. I don’t even realize I’m crying until someone passes me a tissue.

I sit in the waiting area while they wheel Sai into surgery. I text my Mom, and she tells me that they’re at Amy’s house.

“Ms. Edwards.” I stand when a woman comes into the room. She’s dressed in scrubs with a doctor’s coat over it.

“How’s Sai?” I ask. “Can I see him?”

“I’m afraid I have some bad news.” she sighs. “These things sometimes happen under surgery. Mr. Shah had a bad reaction to the anesthesia, and he didn’t make it.”

“What are you talking about, he’s fine?” I laugh nervously. “The paramedics said he’d be fine. The bullet missed all of his vital organs.”

“I’m sorry.” she says sincerely. As if she didn’t just tell me Sai is gone.

“I want to see him.” I say through gritted teeth, trying to push past her.

“Ms. Edwards. Please let the nursing staff prepare his body first.”

“I want to see him now!” I yell. “Not when you fucking tell me I can.” I burst through the double doors, and I can feel her hot on my heels.

“Please, Miss, you can’t do this.”

“Why? Cause, you’re a lying bitch, that’s why.” I shout over my shoulder.

I peek through the glass windows that lead to the various theatres. I eventually find the one Sai’s in and push open the doors. There’s a blue cloth that covers the area the doctors were working on.. The machine next to him has a flat line on it, and I find it odd that there are no nurses in the room. I walk toward Sai and look down at his face. He looks like he’s sleeping.

Where is the ruthless asshole I fell in love with?

“Get the fuck up, Sai. You don’t get to bail out on me. You don’t get to do that.” I yell, my voice straining. “You don’t get to be the fucking victim.” I slap him across his face, but he doesn’t react. I fall to my knees. “Asshole!”
