“The man, who is he?”
She smiles. “Deniz Veer. The same man who shot Kennedy’s father. They made it look like a robbery, but I knew better. I was nine months pregnant, and we were living happily in London, but we knew that they’d follow. I had to change my identity. We stayed off the radar mostly, until Kennedy met Amelia. When that happened, I knew the wheels of destiny had begun to turn.”
I feel my hands fist. Deniz took away so much from both me and Kennedy. He would die for what he’d done.
“I’m not worthy of your daughter.” I say plainly. “Not by a long shot.”
“But you will be. I’ve seen it.” she says kindly.
“Kennedy doesn’t love me. Why would she? I’ve done nothing but hurt her.” I stand and look out the window into the colorful garden outside.
“I wouldn’t be so sure. Has she said that?”
“I can tell.” I fold my arms across my chest.
“Where is she now?”
“On my yacht.” I turn to face her when she gasps and holds onto her chest. I rush over to her.
“Kate, are you okay?”
She starts to shake her head, her eyes rolling back as she trembles. Finally, once she’s settled down. she looks at me in horror. “He has her, not far from where we are. It’s why I live here. I knew he’d come back some day, for you. And now he has my daughter.”
I rush out of the house with Kate hot on my tail. “Stay out of it. Keep yourself safe, Kate.”
“You forget that she was mine long before she was ever yours.” she tells me sternly, and I cannot argue that.
We quickly make our way through the marketplace. People greet her as we go, and I wonder just how much time she has spent here over the years.
There is no doubt she’s a psychic or something. She knows a lot about my family history, but more than that, I believe her. There is something good and solid about her. It’s like everything in me knows that every word this woman has spoken is the truth.
Why would Deniz want Kennedy?
“Because she’s the answer. She’s the one who’ll lift your curse, and she’s a Tekin by blood. You will remain the rightful heir to your father’s fortune, because you’ll have kept your end of the deal.”
She stops and asks people if they have seen Kennedy, and she describes Deniz to a T. “This way.” We rush down the street. If something happens to Kennedy... I have never felt this way about a woman, never felt the need to protect one, lay my life on the line for one. But I will gladly give my life for Kennedy. If he’s touched her, so help me, God. I’ll fucking kill him myself.

Kennedy
“What I want is simple,Kennedy Tekin. You tell me where Sai is, who he spoke to, and I spare your friend’s life.”
“Why do you keep saying that? I am not a Tekin, Amy is. I am not related to the Tekins.”
“Yes, you are. You’re her cousin, in fact. Your father was Aydin Tekin. Amy’s uncle.”
This makes absolutely no sense. My mother would have told me something like that. Amy and I met at University. “Bullshit.” I argue.
“Ah,” he grins. “I guess Mommy dearest isn’t as honest as you thought she was.”
I look over at Amy. They’ve already shocked her twice. Her head lulls forward, and I’m sure she’s passed out. I hope for sake she is.
“Look, I told you, he said he was going into the market. I have no idea where he is.”
“Did he speak to anyone in the market?”
I look at Amy. She is my best friend. I love her with my whole heart. Sai would understand. He would do the same for Ravi.
